Gears of War: Judgment Review | EDGE

EDGE: "Only its brevity and the limited multiplayer modes keep Judgment firmly in the ‘not a real sequel’ world, but it’s a template for the next generation of Gears and a licence to experiment with the series’ most sacred mechanics. There’s no going back to the sombre hang-wringing of Gears 3 after you’ve faced an army of machete-wielding madmen and been rewarded with a shiny pink gun from a magic prize box for your trouble. After seven years, 2006’s cover and co-op mechanics have been so exhausted by Epic and its imitators that it’s 1986’s gimmicks – high scores, more enemies, faster action, ridiculous firepower – that make Judgment feel brand new."

8/10 from EDGE is very good. I wasn't terribly excited about this one until I read this review. I thought Gears 3 ended the series very well and didn't want to see another one.

For me it is a 6-7/10. The campaign is definitley the hardest one yet. They weren't lying when they said they had increased the number of enemies on screen. Try doing the game solo on Insane with the declassified missions. It is freaking hard.

Being a hardcore Gears fan, I have only played a couple of MP games before I decided I didn't like it. The maps are stupid. Gears is supposed to have control points, but now it is like CoD where you keep running circles around the map and kill little kids.

8 out 10 sounds about right for this game

Decided to Red Box it. Give it a shot.
I like the series, but they are too simple of a game for me to drop retail at this point.
It is a fun game though. More of the same, but that 'same' is, and has always been, well done.
