Perennial casual Gears of War fan Christopher Jones of Continue/End takes a look at the latest installment of the cover based shooter, and declares it the best iteration of the series yet.
Best of the series, but man, I can't bring myself to buy it. I just can't.
Best of the series, but can't bring yourself to buy it? that doesn't make sense. Anyway, I'd put this under Gears 3, but just above the first two games.
the problem with gears is the multiplayer. they just dont know what to do with it. so they make incredibly stupid decisions like ridiculously over powered shotguns. then to make it worse they add a sawn-off shotgun. turning games into rolling shotgun fests.. and now they add a stupid two headshot over powered rifle. ffs 1 hr on the demo last night was enough to convince me to keep my cash. which is a real shame. because if they removed the shotguns,(or made them pick up power weapons) and added a mode which really let you use the cover in an advance, conquer and hold mode. like say frontlines. then gears could be great on-line. instead, they just dont know what to do to make the community disappear quicker. f'ing shame
Lol, Gears is great online. Why do you think there is such a fuss over it?
I'm saying that even if it is the best of the series, I probably won't stick my neck out to buy it. Played the first two and never saw the need to keep playing them.
Cuz of price?
First gears was the best MP wise and the second campaign wise.
Correct. Although 3 is better 'now' because it doesn't have the same lag that Gears 1 had with p2p hosting. Judgment I was giving a 7/10, but after screwing around with it today I'd give it a solid 8. Quite a good game, if you like Gears MP. If you want an interesting, story focused campaign, sadly this isn't it. I am more of a single player story focused guy, but I can find some long lasting appeal in the MP. Been hoping for a great story in a Gears game since Gears 1. Yet again, they disappointed in that regard. I think they should scrap Gears and move onto a different game, or at least incorporate some of the brilliant storytelling from the novels. I know Karen also wrote Gears 3, but she was tied to that arc and was thrown into a major hole that EPIC had dug up with the first two games. In closing, EPIC = Game-play, Graphics......... Story??? *fart sounds*
I liked the MP in one because it was fairly barebones and it came down to a players individual skill and the power weapons were an aid, not a team destroying weapon like the updated boomshot or digger launcher or the recent shoulder mounted minigun. Host was a problem but a better player would always beat a host who had a good connection. The story in gears was never going to be its strong point, I liked the relative simplicity of one were it was simply the locust trying to kill the humans and it was better simple I felt and concentrating on what was its strong points, action and gameplay. I didn't like the whole dom/maria side story which came off as really cheesy and was badly portrayed if it was an attempt at some emotion and seeing a guy with a chin that rivals the bow of a ship crying just does not suit at all.
