Larry Probst to be New EA CEO

Sources close to EA tell Talkingship that Larry Probst, current Executive Chairman of EA, will act as John Riccitiello’s permanent replacement. A senior executive at EA heavily insinuated that Larry Probst would be staying on permanently as EA’s new CEO. (EA, Industry, John Riccitiello)

I think Probst and Riccitiello are stuck in some kind of revolving CEO door over there in Redwood.

How about.. just listen to me here.. how about.. you try someone new? Huh?

Maybe someone who hasn't taken their turn at the EA Nosedive controls? Maybe someone who has some vision, or at least experience operating a successful business of this size? No.. let's stick to vision and stay away from the Bobby Koticks here.

"at least experience operating a successful business of this size? "

That's an interesting statement, since John Riocitiello and Bobby Kotick have both been very successful at running their respective companies. Whilst both of them get a lot of crap from a very vocal minority, Bobby is the only reason that Activision is still around, and John has been very successful at keeping the business profitable in a very tough environment.

THQ could've used someone like them.

The hell? The reason Riccitello stepped down is because he wasn't bringing in the dough he should've been. And because his anti-consumer crap kept flying into our games, it's impacted the amount of money EA's likely to make in the future.

Don't compare THQ to EA. EVER. THQ was actually a pretty damn good publisher.

The comment regarding experience was referring to the theoretical "someone new". Not in regard to Riccitiello or Probst.

But I do think someone new should be on deck. Having the same two guys swap back and forth at the helm isn't going to right the ship.

Sounds good. As long as Battlefield stays Battlefield I'm happy (I'm not saying that I don't care about other games it's just that BF is my favorite)

Would have been nice to see new blood. Probst being the guy who refused to have EA games go online on the original Xbox, and opted not to put EA games on Dreamcast... Oh crap, him and Peter Moore should get on like a house on fire.
