The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct Review: The Suffering | Polygon

Polygon: "The tide has begun to turn for licensed games thanks to great efforts like those from Telltale, Rocksteady’s Batman franchise and others. Walking Dead: Survival Instinct is the exact sort of lazy, cheap cash-grab that gave licensed games a bad name in the first place. To put a slightly less nostalgic twist on an old cliche: They don’t make ‘em like this anymore." (PC, PS3, The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, Wii U, Xbox 360) 3/10

this game really just proves they should let telltale do everything walking dead related

Telltale's walking dead games were great, it was definitely my top 5 in 2012 just because of the emotional impact it had on me... But technically speaking, they were awful. The amount of frame rate problems or game freezes makes no sense when you consider how little processing power this game should be using.

Their engine needs to be fixed. I really hope season 2 does not have these issues.
RonRico  +   740d ago
I agree the frame rate thing was weird for a visually less demanding type of game.

On another note, an fps walking dead game could be awesome if created by the right team. I guess not like this one.
Godmars290  +   740d ago
But have they made a FPS?

I'm not defending this game but why should TT only do The Walking Dead...the point and click games they done wern't that good like many people claim them to be, pretty over rated in my opinion. I felt hardly no emotional attachment to any of them.

Just because TT did a good Walking Dead game dosen't mean they should be the only ones to do it

I don't want a point and click WD game, I want to get in on the action. I would love to see a third person open world survival game from someone where you start in a small estate and only can venture out into the big world once you've raided homes and collected/improved a lot of your stuff. You know those perks in Fallout New Vegas the medical and survival ones they would be great in a game like this.

That's the thing: as soon as a dev does something good no matter prior record, they at once get loyalist.

Based on the technical performance of the TT WD game, I do not believe they would be able to produce a solid FPS game. Sure, they can do story when Kirkman is sitting on their shoulders watching, but the technical aspect of a FPS game is incredibly important. This is something they did not do well previously.

Lol no one is suprised, I barely heard of the game like 1 month ago and they release it already.
eliteslaya13  +   740d ago
Just torrented this, played fifteen minutes, then uninstalled.

How could anyone pay $49.99 for this trash?
xPhearR3dx  +   740d ago
I thought they canceled the PC version until I read this comment. I'll be damned. I shall join you just to see how bad it really is lol
Robotronfiend  +   740d ago
Did you record your game play? I don't even want to d/l it, just watch the carnage and move on. :-)
eliteslaya13  +   740d ago
I could, but frankly, I don't even want to play the game.

Worst game of 2013?
SpiralTear  +   740d ago
Did anyone really expect this game to be worth anyone's time or money? Even worse, I have a chilling feeling that it will sell just because it has the name "Walking Dead" in it. Sad, really.

Still, it was worth the click just to be able to read a review with the word "ZomBiebers" in it. Kudos, Justin.

EA get called the worst company out there but the thing with EA is I could actually sit through one of their games...with anyone under Activision it's usually trash.

Activision can't do a good game...you know what your pretty much getting with their games
JakemanPS31994  +   740d ago
That's not entirely true! Gun, xmen origins (ps3 & 360 versions) and singularity are all great games! But ever since.... EHHHH! >.< ^.^
PopRocks359  +   740d ago
"Activision can't do a good game..."

I call bull.

Activision published Battlezone, Transformers War for/Fall of Cybertron and Blur and I love those games, just to name a few.

"Playing Survival Instinct is like listening to a roomful of barely competent musicians, each of whom is playing a completely different song. And every once in a while one kicks you in the groin. Also, you have a sunburn."

Hehe. This made me laugh.

This game is not that bad really.... Not the greatest game ever but not that bad either. This one is completely Activisions fault it could have been great, but limited deadlines pretty much killed it. I did actually enjoy playing it for the most part though. If i had to rate it would be around 5-6. The stuff they tried to do with the time frame they had was kinda cool and which it could have been expanded on. You can disagree all you want everybody has different tastes in games. Yes, my local store did sell out of this game lol. I still don't think if will sell large numbers. I am not the only one that thinks this either even Amazon has some positive reviews on the game.

With the popularity of the show, this will sell pretty damn well. Hell the front of the box has the characters from the show plus AMC. Casuals will freak the fuck out when they see this on the shelves. Guarantee they will do no research and buy it ASAP.
clintagious650  +   740d ago
Sad thing is this game will prolly go on to sell very well despite being a terrible game. Your average consumer will see it & be like, "Oh Hell Yeah" & buy it.
HorrorGod  +   740d ago
Sounds like this game belongs on my shelf, next to "Lost: Via Domus."

Please stop writing articles about cartoons and stick to video games.

Hope Dead Island 2 turns out good, enjoyed the first and like the RPG aspect of a Zombie Survival game. Wouldn't mind an aspect like Skyrim Hearthfire DLC, find a farmhouse and use resources to fortify it. Build up fences and a perimeter. Go out and find survivors to build your group up.
KingKevo  +   740d ago
And again, Activision has shown us again how bad they can still be sometimes. They were trying to keep mayjor sites from reviewing the game by not sending them review copies. But I'm glad that the Polygon stuff bought it anyway. Activision will get the money for that one copy, but I can only hope that many, MANY more people will NOT buy the game after reading this. This whole behavious by publishers has to stop. It's really annoying for everyone in the industry.
Bonerboy  +   740d ago
"They dont make 'em like this anymore" ??? Sure they do. Just look at ACM by randy'the douche'pitchford and his gang of hacks for starters. That was utter shit too.

When idiots stop buying this crap, game companies will ...oh fuck it, who am I kidding? The world has an endless supply of morons.
WayneJ360  +   740d ago
I downloaded this from Piratebay and after the reviews didnt even install it for free lol :)
