I know the history of the game and the people behind it.
I was wondering the intent behind his statement itself. Sounds like he either hates Diablo, or Torchlight by comparison.

I have played both and they feel so different that I just cant understand how one could say that torchlight is a spiritual successor of diablo.

I dont care who worked on it. Yes it is a hack and slay rpg, but the commonality ends there.

torchlight is cartoonish, full of color and it takes itself not too serious. Characters are humorous and monsters look funny.

diablo is the exact opposite.
