Review: Gears of War: Judgment | Metro Gaming

Before Gears of War: Judgment even arrived there were two distinctive camps: those offering unconditional support for the franchise and those who already considered this prequel little more than a cash cow. These two audiences have already made up their mind, and surely the former will be enough to ensure the videogame’s profitability, but what remains is the less vocal populace; those who quietly sit on the fence. (Gears of War Judgment, Xbox 360) 7/10

There are things about the game I like and things I don't like (only played it for about 2-3 hours so far), but it's still a good Gears game. I agree with a score of 7. I don't, however, agree with the way this article breaks it down. Also, it's rather poorly written.

Haven't played the game yet, but I see the same thing happening with the new God of War game, also a prequel. For some reason these games get lower scores, get marked down for being more of the same, unnessesary, even a cash cow.
Imo that isn't fair. These aren't franchises with a new game every year (and get away with it) and certainly not cash cows. Last Gears game was at least one and a half years ago, last game with Kratos even three years, and both games look to me as great new games for the fans to enjoy, both Epic and Santa Monica put a lot of effort in it. Imo the same can not be said about the next CoD, yet those yearly outings usually get a free pass in the press.

I'm enjoying the hell out of Ascencion and I'm sure Gears fans will do the same with Judgement.

I agree to an extent, I have been well into Gears since the original... but I have no need for this one. Gears 3 MP hasn't become stale or boring, and I go back to that all the time... but because I do that it doesn't mean I want a new one, so will pick this one up when it is in a bargain bin some day. I feel the same about battlefield 4. These are just unnecessary sequels designed to just pinch a few more quid at this stage. Give me something new.

I'm buying it as a Gears fan. I've been playing the multiplayer demo and although I don't think it's as good as 3 so far, I've still been enjoying it.

i found the mp demo to be a ton of fun and better than gears 3. still wont pick it up until a price drop though because i didnt like the sp campaign for gears 1 or 3.

I think the SP is very fun w/friends and the MP is the most enjoyable since gears 1. Overrun is a breath of fresh and then there are little things like this:
