Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days Does Not Make for an Enjoyable Film | Kotaku

Kotaku: "The HD collection Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 Remix contains an HD remastered version of the original Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix and Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories. Also included in this package is a remastering of Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days. However, unlike the other two parts of the collection, this HD version of 358/2 Days is not a game. Rather, it is a nearly three-hour movie containing all the cutscenes from the DS game in remastered form. And while it turns out to be a comprehensive abridgment of the events of that game, as a film, it is more than a little lacking." (Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX, PS3) -

Oh wow... This is really disappointing to hear... They didn't even include the last two fight scenes, the graphics go back to DS quality in transitions, and there are a lot of loading times???

Man, I don't know what to think about that... The movie was what I was most excited for in this collection.

I always had the impression that it was the actual game....so it's just cutscenes...REALLY

Oh great so when they do Remix 2.5 Dream Drop Distance will be just cutscenes aswell.

EDIT:

Really....well they bloody should, especialy if a Nintendo title is needed to understand KH3. They said the ending would lead onto the third game so why put it on a Nintendo handheld, something that important to the story

Actually, 2.5 will have Re:Coded based on what is seen in the credits of 1.5. Birth by Sleep should be fully playable however. As for DDD, I don't know if they'll be putting that out, if they will it'll most likely be a separate PSN/XBLA download by itself.

Yes though, it is JUST the cutscenes, but it's all redone in KH2's style graphics. I'm actually watching the Japanese movie through now, so I'll update and let people know how true this stuff is.

[So far, I haven't noticed any of the issues with the graphics going back to DS quality during transitions. Not sure if it happens only in certain places or not, but 15 minutes in I haven't seen it happen.]

Not exactly getting your logic here man. Being on a Nintendo handheld didn't stop Re: Chain of Memories from coming to the ps2 and now the 1.5 HD Remix.

@Snookies12 i haven't seen it either, i've seen some parts that could have looked better, like the clocktower parts the building look a little bit bland and under detailed. I have yet to see it transition like the article suggests and it's looks pretty good for what it is though.

So I'm half way through the movie, have not once seen anything remotely wrong with the graphics (other than things like the skybox being a little lackluster and the trees in the background.)

It's quite cohesive, yes there are a lot of 1 second moments where the screen goes dark and loads, but honestly they're over in a flash so it's really nothing to complain about. They skip over pretty much any fighting save for a quick scene where a keyblade is slashed once in a while. Overall though, I'm loving some of the redone audio (especially the music). I don't think this is going to disappoint by the looks of it, although they did cut a few corners in terms of lip syncing. You'll notice that mouth from scenes in KH2 that just opens and closes and doesn't really move at times. Though most of the time they actually make the effort to move the mouths with the audio.

DDD will probably be its own PS3 HD Remake. 1.5 is being made with the same character models as 3D (but just in higher def), so 3D will also be in just a higher definition too.

whatever kotaku i dont care about the cutscenes anyways and their quality it will be an improvement from the ds version which i still have.

Wow, it's just a compilation of cut scenes from a DS game that's just meant to give the story of 358/2 without actually playing the game. To expect top notch film quality is ridiculous.

After finishing it, it's actually really well done. It hurts a bit, not seeing the final battles played out, but it doesn't detract too much from an otherwise really great movie.
