SimCity Review [Capsule Computers]

Zac Elawar from Capsule Computers wrote:

"SimCity is the 2013 reboot of the original King of city-building simulations. Our review is a belated one due to many factors; one of them being few Oceanic servers and, considering all the controversy that has unfolded over the always-online requirements for the game, I think you can imagine the initial roadblocks. Among being swamped with other big time reviews, such as God of War: Ascension and Mass Effect 3: Citadel, as well as G.I. Joe: Retaliation press commitments, I was swamped, but also thought it fair to allow EA the time to do some damage control. Why? Because I wanted to review the game based on its own merits, however do not think I ignored the server-side issues that plague the game all together…they still reared their ugly head. Read on for my ultimate opinion on SimCity."

Man, the launch of this game went so poorly. EA's CEO even resigned. Sounds like the game failed to deliver on some of their promises.

Yeah, well when you make such a disastrous decision as to keep a game always online in order to work. you deserve to be fired/resigned. Just a shame when that game deserved a lot better...

Well, MMOs are always-on, but they kinda need to be given their environment and purpose. It doesn't sound like this really needs it.

ZacE1291d ago

Well exactly. And this isn't an MMO. It makes it much worse now that EA has admitted that it could have been made as an offline game. I respect what they tried to do with the multiplayer and all that, but even then always-online isn't exactly necessary.

The game was just too small in scale.

HammadTheBeast1291d ago

Exactly. Always online was just the tip of a disaster.

Was thinking about picking this up soon specially with those free games announced, wouldnt mind simcity with a side of NFS most wanted

Yeah, but you need to have already purchased SimCity and installed it by the cut-off date (which I think is tomorrow). So if you buy it after that, you're not getting a free game.
