I feel once the trilogy is done publishers need to allow studios to move on and create something fresh

I agree. Particularly with Gears of War, we finished the fight and (spoiler alert) killed all of the Locust and Lambent and we were given a fairly satisfying conclusion. There's not much reason to go back and fight the same hordes again unless you truly feel attached to the story (in my case I wasn't, I just like curb-stomping shit).

I agree, but with a very fer exceptions. If you're using the same universe, they shouldn't use the main characters as the main line.

MGS3 and DMC3 are prequels, and are probably the best games in the series.
