Rev:This week on Sessler's ...Something, Adam reflects on the past two weeks of God/Gears of War, and ponders the nature of prequels. Can they be great? What challenges do they face?
I feel once the trilogy is done publishers need to allow studios to move on and create something fresh
I agree. Particularly with Gears of War, we finished the fight and (spoiler alert) killed all of the Locust and Lambent and we were given a fairly satisfying conclusion. There's not much reason to go back and fight the same hordes again unless you truly feel attached to the story (in my case I wasn't, I just like curb-stomping shit).
I agree, but with a very fer exceptions. If you're using the same universe, they shouldn't use the main characters as the main line.
MGS3 and DMC3 are prequels, and are probably the best games in the series.
Shut up Sessler and go white-knight in some other entertainment medium. We all should have known you were a joke when you gave Fable 3 GOTY.
Fable 3 was pure garbage
You should tell him this on the 20th. This way he ACTUALLY gets your message. http://www.youtube.com/watc...
Fable 2, actually. http://www.g4tv.com/xplay/a...
Sessler looks a bit like Dr Evil in that thumbnail.
If done right yes
Can prequels be great? MGS 3 says so.
Hmm...let me see. Crisis Core Metal Gear Solid 3 Devil May Cry 3 Metroid Prime Valkyrie Profile Silmeria Ys Origin Halo Reach Ace Combat Zero Misadventures of Tron Bonne Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Yes Adam...prequels can be good, you're just not looking hard enough. I guess none of these has 'hoes' in them.
Sessler needs to retire and work at McD.
because no doubt he has padded his resume (along with his personal ego) already with what occurred with the whole "Bros Before Hos" situation, and the eventual "patching" of it. His resume must now read, in part: "Accomplished professional with solid and progressive experience in diverse areas of gaming business operations. Highly skilled in effectively bellowing and b*tching about non-issues and inciting change and reformation in such non-issues. References: God of War Ascension, 'bros before hos' articles on the web"
Do people take this guy seriously? I remember when he was on TV and I always thought how irrelevant he was to the industry. An N4G favorite though so bring on the disagrees.
I dunno bout you but I rather take info from Adam than Michael Pachter. Last I checked Adam didn't come up with the preditction saying "The new Xbox will outsell the PS4 because of Xbox Tv and Skype." If he had some sort of evidence that allow him to make that prediction then fine. But he doesn't, instead he based that stray prediction off of well, himself. Which isn't saying much because Michael credibility isn't all that great. At least Adams's truthful and he is a gamer. An Ex-"X" Play Host. While Michael isn't much of a gamer and is an anylist and a stock holder.
So long as the game is competently done. It needs to be written very carefully, with the making of the writing, characters, and the game world being very focused on maintaining internal consistency with previous titles. If done right, internal consistency can actually make the game a far more personal and intimate experience.
Darn it, Sessler... I used to like you. That was like two weeks ago, too!
This must be a new Sessler, Hollywood Sessler. Just look at the facial hair :)
Deus Ex Human Revolution?
after he made sony change the bros before hoes trophy i cant stand him
Prequels suck the life out franchises. This happened with the Star Wars franchise. Because knowing how the story ends kills the motivation to watch or play. Both Gears and God of War were building to something. In Gears,Dom finding Marie. Marcus finding his Dad. Defeating the Locust. It all came to an awesome satisfying conclusion. All that is gone in Judgement. Because their's no stakes. We know Baird and Cole Train survive and we know they defeat the Locust. So who cares? In God of War the player was fueled by Kratos's anger and determination for Revenge. It was all building up to the EPIC battle with Zeus! Each battle was a, hell yeah moment! I will have my Revenge! By the time Kratos says, "ZEUS! YOUR SON HAS RETURNED!" Your adrenaline is at an all time high. Fuck yeah! AHHH!!!!! In this new game I didn't feel crap. I was bored. What's my motivation? I already saw the ending.
This guy is a douchebag. I already know he's going to throw more hate on GoW. The game is fantastic. I haven't put it down since I bought it. (Literally 20 hours nonstop playing the singleplayer campaign twice in a row.AND THEN I started up the multiplayer for like 3 more hours until I had to stop because my eyes were bloodshot like crazy and all irritated.) THEN I jumped into the multiplayer... and let me tell you. My god this is an addictive, brutal, smooth, hassle free multiplayer. You have COOP trial of the gods, you have 4v4, you have 2v2, you have capture the flag and you have ONE GOD DAMN AMAZING GAME. I am one of those guys who didn't really want to see a multiplayer on this series, but they BROUGHT IT and I love it. And if you thought a trophy was bad?? Well don't mind those breasts that are gonna be popping out ALL OVER the place. lol. Yummy.
awesome to see someone else appreciate this game as much as i did! Story-wise it wasn't my favorite in the GoW series, but as a prequel and the first in the story, I think they did an amazing job with gameplay, presentation, and that familiar epic-bad-ass-ity. The multiplayer is fkn out of control fun and exhilarating. It's hard to pick favorites for me in the series, all I know is this game is AMAZING. I disagree with the people saying it's time to move on from the series just yet. I say at least make a GoW 4 on the PS4 and push the series to the limit, then Santa Monica studios can end the series for good. You know a PS4 GoW would be RIDICULOUSSSS
You really should specify you're talking about GOD of War.
God of War was GoW before Gears was a thing...
WOW. He looks so old. I think he wears depends. Needs to retire and get a job at walmart.
