UK chart: God of War: Ascension launch sales half that of GOW 3

PlayStation 3-exclusive God of War: Ascension has entered the UK all-formats chart in second place. It sold less than half the launch week sales of predecessor God of War 3.
Square Enix's Tomb Raider reboot maintained its hold on the top spot for another week, meanwhile. They're probably having a Lara Lara laughs.

As Crytek would say 'franchise fatigue' . But to be fair the PS3 have been on the decline in the UK in terms of sales and public perception

@below
So the best your system has to offer are small indie games doesn't damage your image? Riiight, you keep believeing that.

moegooner881230d ago (Edited 1230d ago )

Decline in PS3 public perception, manifested by Journey and the Unfinished Swan dominating the BAFTA videogames awards, with 7 out of total 18 awards, try harder next time when you troll, be more sensible.

Edit: Ni No Kuni, a small indie game/s, debuted at number one on UK VG sales chart.

andibandit1229d ago (Edited 1229d ago )

uhm yeah that BAFTA convention is like second knowledge to everyone.....

Awards from BAFTA means next to nothing in the context of public perception, if you're gonna be a DIE-hard defender, be more sensible.

moegooner881229d ago (Edited 1229d ago )

@andibandit, it was covered by many newspapers, including Metro, a free tabloid one, which is read by a large number of the public in the UK, I listed facts, all the guy above did was speculate without any references. If you have a link stating the decreased public perception for the console, feel free to post it.

This is the latest detailed survey of console choice by region, dating back to May last year, PS3 seems to be very well received by the UK public, if you or the guy above have any recent info, go ahead and share : http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

""""It does however become the second biggest Week 1 in the series surpassing the debut week of God of War II which took the No1 back in Week 17 2007.""""& quot;
http://www.chart-track.co.u...

So its the second biggest Week 1 in the series.which is very impressive for not a main title

try harder

Of course it's going to sell less! The 3rd game marked the move from PS2 to PS3, it had a lot more to offer in terms of improvement than one on the same console...

HOO-HAA1230d ago

maybe in your head but out here in the real world they're doing well

x5exotic1229d ago

The reason: God of War 2 had only like...the biggest cliffhanger of any game, and a prequel can't beat the final part of the story

AngelicIceDiamond1229d ago

I don't understand? Not only we haven't seen a GoW since 2010 but there are allot more PS3's out now to maximize potential sales.

Are people not interested? Its far from being milked or shoved down peoples throats.

Maybe they don't like it because its a prequel? Late in the gen? Can't be because Halo Sold like crazy.

Confused.

Skips1229d ago (Edited 1229d ago )

"Late in the gen? Can't be because Halo Sold like crazy."

You can't really compare a main installment (Which in Halo 4's case marks the 1st game to a SECOND TRILOGY) to a THIRD prequel. LMAO

Spinoff/Prequel =/= Main installment.

That's like comparing Forza Horizon's (Spinoff) sales to Gran Turismo 5's (Main installment) sales.

There hasn't been one advertisement for GOW here in the UK.
Just to add, this does not include digital sales and we all know you can't buy GOW3 on the store so that's always a factor.

edit: Why the disagrees? has GOWA been on the TV? I don't think it has, don't just hit the disagree button tell me why you disagree with me.

green1230d ago (Edited 1230d ago )

I say TV ads for the game on SKY1 and others yesterday. Online portals like Youtube etc all have commercials. So just because you have not seen any, does not mean that the game is not being advertised.

mcstorm1230d ago

Ive Saw a few Adverts in-between the European football games last week for this game.

I really need to get number 3 and Im also going to look this game to but need to get through my backlog of games 1st.

HarryMasonHerpderp1230d ago

Haha fair enough.
I put my hands up I was wrong!
I watch lot of TV and have not seen an advert for GOWA but I don't have Sky and I don't watch football lol so that's probably why.

Thanks for letting me know why I got the disagrees I don't mind being wrong I just wanted to know why.

HOO-HAA1230d ago (Edited 1230d ago )

Sony rarely do advertise their games, up until around 2 yrs ago they didn't advertise at all on uk television!! You could post evidence to prove something on here and you'd still get disagrees! *Go on disagree away* HaHa

TotalHitman1229d ago

I don't know why you're getting disagree's either, you're right. The first GOWA advert I've seen on TV was on release day.

IK IR Y IP T1229d ago

I'll tell u why they disagree with you because they are so butthurt that a ps3 exclusive is not doing so well I love the ps3 and the xbox but the fact is os3 exclusives just dont sell well mediocre at best i love the gow franchise but this game was complete garbage as i stated before love it or hate gears of war 3 outsold all ps3 exclusives last year and judgement will outsell all ps3 exclusives this year just deal with it we are getting new systems this year

trouble_bubble1229d ago (Edited 1229d ago )

Why bring up Gears, and what are you talking about lol? Lifetime GOW sales one year ago http://www.vg247.com/2012/0...

That and exclusive new IP jrpg NiNoKuni was just at #1 and has sold over 600,000 already.

Uncharted 3 came out same time as Gears3 BTW and both have passed 5 million. So has God of War 3. What's the problem? Gears damage control is my guess, as the new game is currently sitting at a franchise low 79% on metacritic. Make sure ya buy a few, as that's it for 2013 exclusives, and ya haven't even earned a trophy in 3 years http://psnprofiles.com/IKIR... .

Myst-Vearn1230d ago

main titles in a series always sell better

Fez1229d ago (Edited 1229d ago )

I'm interested to know why that is. Any thoughts?

I've noticed some people on here treat some numbered titles differently... like with MGS Ground Zeroes/MGS5. People act as if MGS5 is greater than Ground Zeroes regardless of developer, whether 5 exists or whether they are the same game. Numbered sequel > Subtitle for some reason.

Maybe people pre-judge a game to not be as progressive if it doesn't have a higher number. I think it's silly but I guess lots of people don't which is why we see ridiculous numbering on some franchises and why Xbox 2 was called 360 (since there seemingly would be an irrational tendency to think it's worse than the PS3 by name alone)

Edit: It's quite telling that you would equate the numbered GOW games as "main titles" where as this clearly stands alone as not a main title to you?

KrisButtar1229d ago

"I've noticed some people on here treat some numbered titles differently"

i do treat them different sometimes, like final fantasy 13-2 for example, as i see the spin offs as tying up loose ends before the next numbered. also same with assassin's creed 2 spin offs to finish ezios story before carrying on with the main story "desmond".

now with the MGS games, gound zeros would be a main to me cause it has snake, the MGR title in my eyes would be the spin off as its following raiden

with GOWA i have no clue as i havent played a single GOW before(i do have the saga, it just in my backlog) but from what i know i would say that it is a main title even if its not numbered as its a prequel which is important to the story

Dark111230d ago (Edited 1230d ago )

Well that is just in the UK , and the game is selling well around the world especially in the USA.

stubbed_out1230d ago

Will buy it eventually anyway, just bought 4 games last week so I'll be busy for a while (Tomb Raider, Far Cry 3, Ni No Kuni, and the new Starcraft).

Also the prices have jumped for new releases recently so wasn't up for paying £40 on an online order.

GribbleGrunger1230d ago

Jesus, see you next year then ...

stubbed_out1230d ago

Beat Tomb Raider this weekend, one down!
