More Evidence of Halo 3 PC Surfaces

The Halo 3 PC mystery has just gotten a little deeper. After Halo 3 (and its predecessors) turned up in the Steam registry, PC gamers were ready to jump at the chance to play some of the best rated FPS titles on their rigs. Microsoft shot down the idea, specifically saying that it wasn't going to happen. So why is there an entry for Halo 3 in the latest AMD beta drivers? (Halo 3, PC)

As much as id like for it to be true, i just don't think its going to happen. I could possibly see it happening when the new console launches. For all we know there might be another reason why its called Halo3.exe in the beta drivers and have nothing to do with the game.

That's a possibility, of course. The fact that Halo 1-3 turned up in the Steam registry a mere two weeks before the phrase Halo3 turned up in the beta drivers is intriguing, but not 100% proof of anything.

At the very least, there's something very interesting happening. For both AMD and whoever handled that Steam registry to fall for it, this is more than just some random trick.

Pc gamers are not 12 year old console gamers and dont give a shit what IGN "amazing" has said. No one is jumping because no one cares.

Halo 3 on PC would sell well, especially given that a lot of people who bought consoles at the beginning of this gen may well have bought a PC in the mean time. A digital title needs only to sell a couple hundred thousand units and its even, and given that Halo 3 is already in the pure-profit zone, there's no real reason not to do it if they suddenly want to.

Oh, unless of course you're right and literally nobody who owns a PC cares. We both know that's not true though.

If this were true, which I highly doubt, it would be rather insulting at this point.

Seeing as how MS is just naturally close to PC gaming with Windows, this could have been done long ago. You know, when we cared.

Its really strange how completely inept MS is at supporting PC gaming. When GFWL has issues with Win 8, its probably better to just stop trying.

Since it was AMD drivers my guess is it has something to do with the 720.

There is absolutely no reason AMD beta drivers for PC would have data needed for 720. Microsoft/Sony will be handling their own firmware; we're not all of a sudden going to be seeing console profiles in Catalyst.
aliengmr  +   553d ago
Well seeing as how MS said it wasn't true, I guess AMD just decided to make a profile for no reason at all.

GFWL had issues all the time!

And it flat out wouldn't work with MS's own Windows 8. Pretty sad when your own service requires a work-around to run in your own OS.

It's way too late to matter. Maybe halo 4 might actually sell a few copies.

I would buy it, just to support the PC getting some ports like this.
MS really dumps on Windows games, oddly enough.
The third parties really keep Windows gaming alive.

How is tossing a 5 year old game on the PC a good thing?

Why support table scraps?

Twelve or thirteen years ago Halo might have still been relevant on the PC.

You mean like all those HD remakes companies are selling?
I don't see the difference.
I fun game is still a fun game.
aliengmr  +   552d ago
We weren't talking about an HD remake, just a 5 year old FPS which are a dime-a-dozen these days.

At least with an HD remake there was some effort involved beyond just randomly decided to port a 5 year old game for a quick buck.

Its rendered moot now, but the Halo ship has sailed and knowing MS they'd just mess it up anyway if they tried. Halo is best left a console exclusive IMO.

Microsoft already denied this rumor though, and usually they don't bother to talk on rumor and speculation. The fact that they came out and said they weren't doing it, says a lot.

It was pretty obvious MS was lying.

meh it is only halo 3, far better games already available on PC
