Why The Eighth Generation Fails To Excite

For many, excitement over the eighth generation of consoles is, understandably, at a fever pitch. The question is whether the high levels of anticipation can be justified. The ideas that we’re seeing – second screens, socially aware hardware, implementation of more control mechanisms – are all progressive without really being impressive... I agree there has been nothing mentioned through official announcements to make gamers run out and but a new console.

We will not know whether the new consoles are worth buying until we see all the new games and their gameplay mechanics.

Nothing in Wii U's library is screaming 8th gen, and nothing that Sony showed was really 8th gen. There were hints that watch dogs had new stuff, but, it is going to ship on PS3 and 360 so it won't have anything you can't do in 7th gen. Same with Destiny.

What we really need is a true 8th gen title.
