PS Vita: The Struggles it Faces

The PS Vita appears to be travelling along by the skin of its teeth. Despite elevated sales in Japan, it continues to be outsold by the 3DS. Can a console that occupies such an obscure place in the market compete with the wide-scale appeal of the 3DS? (PS Vita)

No one expects Sony's handhelds to ever beat Nintendo's. That doesn't matter though, they're not trying to win, they're just taking a share of the market. I'm sure it'll be a considerable one with the Vita, once the price drops globally.

This article contradicts itself and doesn't state all the facts.

"One of the most worrying pieces of evidence pointing out the struggles the Vita faces is ironically the news of its increased sales in Japan recently. Figures confirmed by gaming website Gematsu show the Vita increased its sales by six times the previous week’s numbers in the hot Japanese gaming market following a generous price cut."

I don't understand how more sales is something that's worrisome and detrimental to the hardware.

This was the contradicting part.

"That said, the Japanese discounting of the vita may be just what it needs to increase its exposure"

I thought he just said it was a negative impact.

"Not only did Sony have to implement a heavy price cut to get these numbers, the awful fact remains that they were still outsold by the combined sales of 3DS models in the same week (and the 3DS achieved this without a discount)."

I was under the impression that the 3ds had a significant price drop after it came out.

The article did make some good points about some of the quality that is put into the games, especially COD Black Ops
De-classified. In my opinion that is what is really hurting the Ps Vita

Psvita is 1 year old..... smh japans sales after price drop shows people want it. after global drop it will be a success. These articles just want hits and are one of the shames of the gaming community imo.

It's a shame U.S. buyers are stupid saying it needs a price drop when we have the lowest price in the world pretty much. Japan just recently got their price down to 215$ roughly. While China buys for outragous prices going up to 600$. UK is about like 300$ or more for the cheapest model. I'm buying another Vita soon just because I love it so much and different region accounts. I'm from the U.S. btw.
