The Japan Preview: 3/9 Edition (Yakuza, Metroid, PSP vs. DS)

VGChartz writes: For the first time since these articles have been written, PS3 had the top selling title for the week in Japan. In previous weeks, big titles for PS3 were overshadowed in sales by other, bigger games. The recent Devil May Cry 4 vs. Smash Brothers battle was the latest example in this pattern. However, this week, there was no other big game. In fact no other game sold over 50,000 units this week, leaving Yakuza 3 as the clear victor, since it sold over 140,000 units.

Key Points:

-PS3 had only title in the preliminary data, but because software sales were down overall, PS3 sold the most software in the data.

- Software sales are down by nearly 33% from last week in the preliminary data.

-DS software outsold PSP software roughly 3:1 in the preliminary data.

Hardware Predicted Totals:

PSP: 60,000 to 75,000 units
DSL: 45,000 to 55,000 units
Wii: 50,000 to 60,000 units
PS3: 25,000 to 35,000 units
PS2: 6,000 to 10,000 units
360: 1,500 to 3,500 units

Xbox 360 continues to be the laughingstock of the Japanese console industry. Not even a dating simulator can push units of this garbage console. Dark Sniper commends Japan for having the refined tastes and awareness to stay away from this console at all costs.

I will wait for Media Create for more accurate sales data

Yakuza 3 certainly sold more

Cyrus3653237d ago

what do you think it sold then, over 140 K is pretty good from openning week?

sonarus3237d ago

well if it sold over 100,000 first day i would expect more than 140,000 for opening week. We will see when the data is released. Sony needs to find a way to raise ps3 numbers. Slash cuts, show off white knight story and eternal sonata. Whatever needs to be done let it be done soon.
