Why Saints Row IV Shouldn't Be Released 5 Weeks Before GTA V

Saints Row IV was announced today and will releas in North America on August 20, 2013 and August 23rd worldwide.

Take note that this date is 5 weeks prior to the release of Grand Theft Auto V, meaning that Deep Silver and Volition are indeed going for blood against GTA in open-world crime sandbox. It may not be a great idea to pitch Saints Row against GTA compared between the sales against the two, considering how huge of a franchise GTA is. Let's take a look at why.

So Saints Row "IV" shouldn't be released so close to GTA V because of sales numbers from previous titles? =/

People said the same thing about Battlefield 3, when it released ~2 weeks before Modern Warfare 3. Looking at numbers, Battlefield 3 has held its own and did a great job with its biggest competition.

The only way Saints Row "IV" will flunk is if the final game does indeed look as it did in the trailer because let's face it, we saw a trailer for Saints Row: The Third with an edit to show "IV" instead. It is everything that should of been in the third game, so numbers should be the least of anyone's worries as to why it is a bad idea to release close to GTA V.

Look at the time between releases. That alone tells you which one is going to outdo the other.Rockstar release quality, THQ and Volition were looking for quantity and it looks like Deep Silver are taking a page from the book of THQ and doing the same thing.

Saint rows isn't even a full game. It's just a dlc with 4 on it

porkChop1293d ago

It literally is. SR4 is just the "Enter The Dominatrix" DLC from SR4. That's why it's releasing less than 2 years after SR3, and that's why it's had the shortest development cycle in the series.

Plagasx1293d ago

And you know this how?? Have you played the game?

They said it won't just be the DLC that was promised made in to a full game...

They only thing I'm going to say is it may be to early to release saints row 4 but maybe not maybe this one is better than saints row 3.as far as grand theft auto5 that is a stright winner hands down saints row has no chance against grand theft auto 5 they should've waited alittle longer for saints row 4.

I think it could be good, might be during an 'open world' craze that's yet to come or something. Might help boost sales, if they're all tightly packed together. I'm sure RPGs before the release of Skyrim and after it got more attention because of the hype for it.

Do you think they care? It was originally DLC and it is clear to see that it is just a ****** cash-in before the vastly superior GRAND THEFT AUTO V is released. Avoid this joke of a game.

ChickeyCantor1293d ago

Superior in what regard?
The developers clearly did not want it to be a GTA game. Hence the reason why they made it wacky as hell.

I enjoyed Saint Rows the third. And see no reason why I should ignore the SRIV because you're fantasizing about Nico Bellic.

brewin1293d ago

What does Niko have to do with GTA 5? I used to like saints row but this new one looks stupid. SR 3 was a let down for 90% of SR fans. GTA looks 100 times better than SR4. They're trying to sneak it out beforehand because they know it will bomb otherwise.

Cam9771293d ago

I have this perspective because it has far exceeded what it intended to be in terms of stupidity. Furthermore, it's the same city! Why don't you just buy SR3:TCP & save £30?

spaceg0st1293d ago (Edited 1293d ago )

as lazy as the developers are who make this game, they could probably release a game twice a year!! Saints row 2 to saints row 3 consisted of LITERALLY, the SAME vehicles, names models etc. Slight graphical upgrade but nothing new or really added to the cars inventory. Missions and mini games were almost like they were also ported from the previous game. Stores, clothing were all the same... It was such a let down. Will PASS on anything else from them. Clearly, they've peaked

brewin1293d ago

Well said. Saints Row was really supposed to just be a filller while people waited for GTA 4. It did some decent stuff but they've gone too far off the path now and have run out of ideas that fit the Saints Row mold. They might as well have kept this as DLC. To slap SR 4 on this is essentially putting it out to pasture. Its simply SR3 dlc slightly expanded. And people bitch about ea and Nintendo milking series!?
