Looking Back to Halo: Combat Evolved

"Without Halo, our modern day console FPS’s likely wouldn’t be nearly as fluid and tight as they are, and we’re lucky that the game to deliver the following renaissance happened to also have an original, unique setting, engrossing plot, and then stunning visuals. But its unique flavor isn’t truly surprising when we look at what shooters were back in the day." (Bungie, Halo Series, Halo: Combat Evolved, Microsoft, Xbox)

Halo 3 will still be the best. it's gone downhill when bungie quit :(

Everything that made halo great imo is gone now, the clean tight and symetrical maps have been replaced with uneven open terrain maps with some random buildings on it.
The loadouts ruined the weapon balance Older halo's had.

And every forger and custom games fan will tell you custom games is a joke compared to H3 and reach.

343 is the worst that happened to the series

Hmm...I actually feel quite the opposite.
The series was actually becoming a bit stale with Reach and it just didn't seem as if bungie wanted to make halo games anymore.
343i is a new studio and they do have their faults, but I'm just going to admit that I've never had more fun playing a halo game as I am with Halo 4.

I agree with you on that, it definitly seemed like bungie was done with halo after 3,
Also Im not saying the game is necasarry bad, because cmon, it's halo.

But some of the things that made halo really the unique game it was, is still very much missing because its not bungie anymore.

You can tell that the maps are way different in halo 4. Not the close combat symetrical maps that where very unique and well thought trough.
And small things tags flashing yellow when shooting so you can see where the action is

seeing a X where you teammate died are gone, when that's something many used for call outs, saying: 2 man on my X or whatch out sniper on my X, stuff like that.

But that's just a small thing nothing to get upset about, but it does add up in the end.

The thing i am kinda upset about though is the serious lack of custom game support.
I've always been a forger and played and forged the maps and gametypes with a bunch of friends in custom.

I've made some pretty cool maps in halo4 some spend more then 2 days on, only to find out the gametype options to play with the map arent possible anymore, while they where possible in the older halos

Good examples are Race and Infection, 2 gametypes used for most custom gametypes. With the whole flood gametype, you cant have the infected spawn of pick up weapons or drive vehicles

Maybe, but missing a lot of the features that i enjoyed the most still sucks man, halo has been my favorite series till halo 4.

I've been a forger and custom gameplayer most of all.

No customizable infection
No race
No free for all
No rank system
No file browser
And only a few symetrical maps

All that stuff was in the previous titles

Maybe so far everyone on n4g disagreed but i know the custom game community feels alike.

Take a look at the most commented thread on halo waypoint: https://forums.halowaypoint...
