Blizzard to announce their next game at PAX East! (NOT sequel or expansion)
it's really an interesting bill that one company has 3 extremely successful games in 3 completely different markets. It will be even more interesting if they can go into a 4th market of gamers.
(Blizzard, Industry)
It says it not the rumered next gen mmo on the announcement. Says something different then what they usually make. Im still waiting for Warcraft 4 RTS.
To be honest, I've given up on Blizzard. Since WoW, the way they make and put out games has changed greatly and I'm just not interested in what they'v been offering. WoW was a disappointing MMO from this MMO-freak and Diablo 3 felt very dumbed down and greatly restricted by their desire to focus on a cash generating auction house. Can't say their next game will be something I follow or really care about until they prove they've gone back to their origins (and I don't mean EA's Origin).
While I'd agree with you in terms of their Warcraft and Diablo franchises, I think they've done an admirable (if slow) job on the Starcraft series.
Great (OPTIONAL) online functionality, high production values, and more varied campaign missions than any other RTS campaign I can think of impressed me. I'm obviously biased as Starcraft was one of my childhood favorites (though the same could be said of D2), but unlike what they did to D3, the SC2 games feel like the original Starcraft.
Most SC missions were the standard build base/troops -> send at enemy, like a multiplayer match except the enemy starts with a huge base and doesn't attack as aggressively. There was also usually 1-2 'hold for reinforcements' missions and 1 infiltration mission per campaign. Starcraft 2 goes out of it's way to mix up the formula by designing mechanics often used only for a single mission.
In terms of story, Starcraft 2 took the cast of characters we were familiar with and expanded upon it, and the story as a whole seems to have shifted more towards a character driven narrative.
This is of course a matter of preference, but those were the two elements that stuck out when I played it, and I personally feel they were a big improvement to the franchise.
Considering the indie-friendly venue, that is a possibility. I'm hoping it's a smaller project that allows some of the devs who slave over WoW expansions to break out of their shells and have fun. That could only mean great things for gamers, IMO.
It would be a genre they havent really done yet and would probably be a good fit for consoles as well. It was supposed to be a stealth action game in the lines of metal gear solid and games like that before it was canceled some time ago.
If it didn't take them 2 3/4 years to make an sc2 expansion I might care. Its good, wont lie, but like all blizz games your better off just ignoring them until a product actually hits the selves.
Didn't they release Diablo 3 in between Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm? Not that I'm defending them or anything, but HotS is not the only thing they were working on.
Now - We are looking for awesome people who are interested in testing the new N4G and other new services that are set to launch later this year. | Promoted post

still, I'm not convinced they are at the same quality standard as they were in the days.

I'll most likely get their game on PC though, unless it has local co-op on PS4

Maybe now is a good time to resurrect the game?
"STARCRAFT......GHOST! Coming 2003 from Blizzard Entertainment!"
You lied to me trailer...
I have been waiting for that game for over a decade now. Still don't understand why the cancelled it.
Didn't say anything about being unrelated to existing franchises.
