PlayStation All-Stars Patch Notes for 1.09 Posted, Balances Characters, Goes Live on March 19th

Ahead of the release of patch 1.09 (they haven’t specifically said 1.09, but that’s chronologically the next one) for PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale on March 19th – the same day as Isaac, Zeus, and Graveyard – Seth Killian has posted lots of patch notes.

They didn't even say whether it was SSM or SuperBot in the release.

It's probably SSM under the guidance of Seth Kill. Man, I still miss some of the SuperBot peoples. They where full of real fighting game enthusiasts.

(I bet Seth misses some of his SuperBot peeps too) :(

Summary of changes:

Big Daddy- Supers buffed, air forward triangle nerfed, air down square buffed.

Good Gole- combo fixed to hit short characters, buffed level 3 super, buffed recovery on ground circle.

Dante- can now change direction mid square combo, can now cancel up square, easier to combo short characters, buffed down square move, nerfed up triangle, buffed his counter, buffed his supers level 1&2

Drake- nerfed up triangle, level 1 super nerfed range, level 3 super: all players regain control simultaenously (not sure if good or bad) increased size of his "hurtbox" (not sure if this is good or bad), teamates can't damage barrel, barrel still comes out when he gets hit

Emmit Graves- Super 2 buffed

Evil Cole- combos easier to hit short characters, neutral triangle hit box and recovery buffed, neutral circle nerfed, up throw no longer comboable, level 2 super quicker startup but doesn't drain as much ap (not sure good or bad)

Fat Princess- square attack buffed, charge up square nerfed, air forward circle nerfed, level 3 super has more mages and bombs but less warriors (not sure if good or bad)

Heihachi- easier up square combo, neutral triangle buffed heavily, air up triangle buffed, moves more distinguishable, fixed (nerfed)a glitch that extended his super level 2

Jak- nerfed air forward square, buffed neutral triangle, both air and ground variants of forward triangle no longer knockback and instead rapid fire which is now automatic if you hold button (buffed for ap gain, nerfed in terms of crowd control), air and neutral circle buffed, air and forward circle buffed, down circle nerfed, level 1 super buffed

Kat- fixed backwards roll, nerfed down square slightly, nerfed down triangle slightly to remove an infinite loop combo, level 1 super can't kill people who have gravity shield

Overall: Short characters nerfed making it easier to combo them which is understandable since Zues is so freaking tall.

Buffed- Big Daddy, Good Cole, Emit, Heihachi

Mixed bag of changes- Jak, Fat Princess, Drake, Evil Cole

Nerfed (very slightly i think)- Kat

Let me know if you're experienced with these characters what you think of the changes here.

Disclaimer: I'm definitely getting back into this game more competitively and buying all the dlc, but I stopped playing competitively when they nerfed my character to the ground in the pre season (sackboy) so i don't fully grasp the effect of ALL of the changes for the mixed bag category. That said, a lot of these changes are black and white nerfs/buffs. Nerfing my character that i played with so heavily kinda pulled me out of it, but i still have the urge to play the hell out of this game and learn new tricks.

I will probably go back and test out the use of the nerfed moves listed above until when they get nerfed to get a good feel for what is powerful so I can look for what to exploit in the next patch. Fighting games are all about exploiting stuff and getting the most effective bread and butter attacks to work. Love this game.

I think Santa Monica is just stepping in, getting things adjusted and ready for when they make the second one themselves.

I hope the next update fixes matchmaking errors and host lost issues. What I like bout this is Emmet is probably the most balanced character based on patch notes :D Good for me since Emmet's my main.

what do they mean by frames?

Every event that is processed and displayed visually is broken up into frames.
The more frames something has, the longer it takes to do it...because more action is being shown.
If it has few frames then it happens quickly.

Some of the characters have attacks that are gaining frames. That means that those attacks will take longer to pull of.
Other characters have attacks that are losing frames, that means that those attacks will be faster than they were previously.
............................. ..............
Thats the general idea, but of course depending on the game....60 frames can be pushed through within the same time as 30 frames.
But since we're only dealing with a single game...there is no need to worry about that. I'm pretty sure this game is designed to only push a certain number of frames per second, not jump back and forth between 30 and 60 frames etc.

I'm excited for the patch, but I'm confused about the overall changes of the game. Does this mean I can successfully dodge grapples and everything else better, or are the reducing the chances of a dodge?

That's my only concern, and Dante is better then ever. I hope they didn't take away his empty cancel.
