Microsoft's console continues its good adoption rate this late in the cycle
360 is doing well
its down 30% from last year.
With a 41% hold on the market, I'd say everybody's down by at least 25% I'm looking forward to the next xbox reveal, just so I can suss out what consoles I'm buying next gen. So far Wii U seems like a strong maybe. On topic, congrats to Microsoft, 26 months in a row is very impressive, esp since the US market belonged to SONY last gen, then again, they all did.
I could see how Xbox 360 could topped Wii but I'm still impressed it beat PS3 too worldwide.Anyway, i have a Xbox360 and I don't understand why people are whinning here in N4G, PS3 rarely has beaten the X360 in the USA anyway.
Nope, sony's and msft's last quarterly report puts ps3 on top with worldwide sales. Go by fiscal reports.
!!!Congratulations Microsoft!!! ^_^
Nice hold on North America Microsoft!
Its very impressive how well the 360 is still doing after 7 years.
Wow, sounds like a good boost. This all Tomb Raiders doing?
Good for Microsoft. But what about the games? The games Microsoft, the games!
I don't see whats wrong with the games. its not like Nintendo and sony are shipping anything better... right now, most good devts are working on the next gen. ms is no exception.
more people bought a 360 than a wiiu in feb. ouch.
nice sales ¡
This is good news that the 360 is still selling so well. My only question is. Why is it that when they talk about sales with the 360, its always U.S. sales, and when they talk about PS3 sales its always worldwide?
Because World Wide is more important, for these businesses therefore the PS3 gets the ultimate bragging rights (and their fanboys). While the US is considered the biggest games gaming territory so Xbox 360 gets those bragging rights (and their fanboys). Being number 1 in the US is a great and impressive feat and shows how strong the Xbox brand is in the US, but World Wide is more important.
But the 360 is still ahead of the PS 3 worldwide so really MS is bragging not just the US sales but world wide sales.... Unless you are using IDC's own admitted estimates of "shipped" consoles which hold no significance to market share nor do they hold any reference as not even Sony themselves will confirm to the media OR their shareholders what the true numbers are..... Only 2 people would spread this kind of FUD that the PS3 has outsold the 360, you are either not up to date with facts and are willing to believe the fud spread on this site OR you are a sony fanboy spreading the fud yourself.
@Lvl_up_gamer Never did I say the PS3 had outsold the 360 world-wide. I said the 360 was selling better in the USA, and the PS3 was selling better world-wide in a article about month to month sales, NOT OVERALL SALES. But even overall does it really matter. As Jack Trenton himself said saying who outsold who is really parody now, because they're both neck and neck. MS claimed they sold 76 million Xbox 360's, and a couple of months later Jack Trenton said he believed they've sold 77 million PS3's. I think we all know who the real fanboy here is, thanks for exposing yourself, and having your 3 other accounts agree with you.
Not a surprise its affordable now. U can grab a 360 for $99 so I dont see why ppl wouldnt buy it for that cheap & it comes with kinect I believe. http://www.redmondpie.com/m... Good sales nonetheless by ms.
I wouldn't BECAUSE it comes with a kinect. But that $99 one is highway robbery. You end up paying $460
Not surprised. Congrats.
Amazing this thing still sells.
Great for MS. I was wondering though what the rest of the field looks like. Also the games. I only see MS numbers. What about the rest?.
I just hope these sales arent pushing Microsoft to forget about us gamers. I mean, go Kinect all you want MS, just feed us all here on N4G a bit more real gaming next gen like you started off this gen!
- Tax returns - Cheaper than PS3 iPad minis are selling very well right now, as well. People don't make wise purchasing decisions.
You're a moron. First with your candy bar analogy above, which I got to say is the worst comparison and couldn't be more further from a good comparison to shareholders/market share. Now you write this. Do you reread your comment before you post it? You list "Tax Returns" and "Cheaper then PS3" Then, you talk about iPad minis, which are EXPENSIVE. Again, really awful comparison. Yet, if you want to throw Apple in this too, sure, lets try this out. How many Apple commercials do you see for ipads? A lot, right? How many Xbox 360 commercials do you see? A lot, duh. How many PS3 commercials have you seen recently? Not many at all. It comes down to marketing. Sony has done a less than stellar job of advertising this generation, which is one of it's major hiccups this gen. Microsoft promotes and reduces its prices to stay competitive in a slumping economy. Can't you get a PS3 for $199 now? so, if people are getting lets say over a $1,000 a tax return, which averagely, that's very low, you think if the console they really wanted was 100 dollars more, they wouldn't use the extra tax refund to get it? Come on. Do us a favor and stop posting, can you do that for us?
I don't think the 360 has had a real price drop in three or four years. And there's plenty of PS3 advertising out there, marketing is no excuse. Now the Vita on the other hand, that thing is terribly marketed. It's also a product whose time has passed. Sure, you'll get an enthusiast market but Vita will never hit mainstream. What that does for software support remains to be seen. Too bad because it's impressive tech.
@ Captain Tuttle Around the fall they dropped the 4GB 360 slim to $99. That's a significant price drop and it included kinect. I disagree with the advertising. Look at Halo and Gears of War. Everyone knows halo/master chief and Gears/Marcus Fenix. Why? Because Microsoft dumped piles of money to back it. Look at Uncharted, which is one of my favorite series this generation, Can anyone other then us big time gamers name the lead character? What about Killzone, same applies. Marquee games but not was widely known because of marketing. I agree with you on the Vita, I just think tablets and smart phones have killed the handheld market.
Jeff, regarding price cuts I was speaking of long term, permanent ones. Black Friday deals and the like don't really count.
nice. a lot of it probably from $99 price tag?
Uh... So! It's not MS's fault Sony doesn't have a $99 PS3. What's the next excuse?
i'm not stating excuses. my point is valid. $99 console is very attractive price point.
