360GamerCast - Tomb Raider Review

Lara makes her return as a 21 year old woman fresh out of University, embarking on her first adventure with some friends in search of the Lost Kingdom of Queen Himiko.

The adventure begins with a very short cut scene before Lara is washed up on a strange island, she is cold, frightened and alone. Her vulnerability really shines through which is very much unlike the Lara Croft we know from previous titles. Crystal Dynamics have done an amazing job with Lara, she looks like a real woman unlike her cartoonish 90′s predecessor which makes the game feel like a mature title, she is one tough cookie who has to struggle to survive this harsh wilderness (PC, PS3, Tomb Raider, Xbox 360) 9.5/10

game is good but not that good. A solid 8 in my opinion. But to each there own. Might also be that at first my pc wouldn't play it without messing up, crashing/ a hole bunch of glitches when it actually would run. It tore my 680 apart.

Well glitches can ruin even the best experience. I think this game works very well because of the origin story. Everyone loves Lara and this is a great adventure from beginning to end. With that being said, i think the story hides some flaws. The leveling is quite shallow and the game can be beaten in hard fairly easily without using any upgrades. Some of them are fun and open up new ways to kill people but there is no real choice. Like most rpg elements today, u dont have to choose because u can be an expert in everything. Theres a little assassins creed in this aspect. Also, as many have mentioned she becomes a deadly killing machine quite quickly. This could have been remedied with a short cutscene in which Roth says something like, "u r the most gifted fighter i have ever trained. U hav been doin this since u were a little girl. The only difference now is that its real...these are not target dummies." Then u have one of her closest friends killed or hurt because she cannot pull the trigger. Bam, she becomes a killing machine becajse she is trained and must survive and protect her friends. There are hints to this but nothing this blunt. The enemies do well to recognize laras skill, but we dont know where it came from.

I worry about the sequel because there is no real focus on tombs and only a little on archeology. This can be remedied by writing another emotionally gripping story. It is a wonderful game that is a must play but i hole the sequel gives us more depth in leveling and begins to delve deeper into ber first love...archeology. Back to the game.
