Break out the sushi and sake because this week the Virtual Console is turning Japanese! Platform and puzzle fans are sure to be delighted with these two choices. Both DoReMi Fantasy and Puyo Puyo 2 never saw the light of day outside of the land of the rising sun, which is a crying shame as both are excellent. Finally Nintendo have addressed the balance and done all the legal business to get them on to the VC this week.
DoReMi Fantasy: Milon's DokiDoki Adventure is the sequel to Milon's Secret Castle on the NES. Whilst the original game was undoubtedly great when it first came out, time hasn't been so kind to it. By comparison it is a joy to play the SNES sequel which in terms of level design, visuals, concept and execution is hard to fault. It deserves to be recognised as one of the best platformers which the SNES has to offer. Miss this at your peril.
Puyo Puyo 2: Tsuu is a bit less essential as the Virtual Console already has Mean Bean Machine and Kirby's Avalanche which are both quite similar in concept. We're going to stick our necks out on the lines however and suggest that Puyo Puyo 2 is probably the best of the bunch. Have a read of Damo's review and make up your own mind.
