Hey LucasArts, Get Your Act Together

Ryan McCaffrey from IGN is tired of the incompetence shown by LucasArts.

"I’ve had it with LucasArts. The publisher/developer’s latest head-scratching move, allegedly pumping the brakes on the promising third-person next-gen bounty-hunting action game Star Wars 1313, leaves me to wonder if – or rather, why – the once-proud subsidiary of Lucasfilm has now become a joke that gamers are the butt of." At the beginning of this gen I envisioned a PSN and XBL version of X-Wing vs Tie Fighter. Please make it happen on PS4 and 720, you bastards! I have no interest in Star Wars 1313, or any other Star Wars game that's released since X-Wing, Tie Fighter, and X-Wing vs Tie Fighter. That includes Jedi Starfighter. Bleh.

It's the fact that their management keeps changing and each time they switch priorities, leading to stuff being shelved and zero morale

LucasArt could have owned the space combat sim genre if they wanted to. The genre has manage to still advance on laughable budgets. i-novea was developed by a handful of people, and its the holy grail of the space genre.

Now look at the space expansion to SW galaxies. It was amazing, and really the only successor to X-Wing/TIE Fighter franchise.

Imagine actually flying an X-wing to the surface of Tatooine, in real time with actual size (or close to it).

This isn't cutting edge tech and LucasArts has the budget. They just never had the talent for it.

For years I have waited for them to pull their heads out of their collective asses. At this point Disney can't be any worse. Even if they went and slapped Star Wars on a bunch crap games, it would just be business as usual for LA.

Who knows what's going on at Lucasarts, only one thing's for sure, they are not the company they used to be.

Now that Disney owns them, expect lots and lots and lots of 'Infinity' toys.

and remember, if the game doesn't sell, Disney will close your butt down.

IGN complaining about incompetence? What, the check didn't go through?

It's probably a good thing disney bought them, atleast disney, barring the disney channel, still produces some good movies and games. It will probably be more structured as well, which is a plus. Look at marvel they've done pretty well and produced one of the highest rated movies they've created since their disney buyout.

Yea Disney is capable of making a proper Star Wars movie. Not everything they do is rated G.

Question is what direction will they take. Personally, its high time they left the prequels were they belong, in the past.

disney owns Lucas Arts now so we shall see how disney does things

The game was a victim of being shown off too early. With buy out by Disney plus the dev team still trying to figure out how to actually make the game the new management just didn't want to waste the money.
aliengmr  +   567d ago
I actually wonder if it was shown early because of the buyout in some way.

Let Disney know you want Star Wars First Assault: http://www.facebook.com/pag...

First Assault screen shots looked damn impressive, sad that everything outside the movies is now on hold, they even cancelled The Clone Wars cartoon which was really good.

We could have had Battlefront 3 by now if it weren't for that stinker Haze. Free Radical had a contract for Battlefront 3 and 4!
Godmars290  +   567d ago
Clone Wars isn't canceled, just not on Cartoon Network.

Though by the official press release what's suppose to be its final season doesn't have a venue to show it. Though the Disney Channel should be the natural choice.
Jek_Porkins  +   567d ago
Nope, it was just cancelled.

"The Star Wars universe is moving forward into a brave new era, and that means it’s time for a good old-fashioned brand scrub. Following the news that newly-Disneyfied Lucasfilm is delaying the 3D re-release of Episodes II and III, the company announced today that they are ending production of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the Cartoon Network series that spent five seasons earning raves"

And this was my source, which includes a clip of the next season.

Wish they'd go make games like Day of the Tentacle again, follow Quantic Dreams formula = insta win

I remember the excitement of placing a lucasarts game in the cassette drive and waiting 5 minutes for the game to load. The cassette would stop loading and the lucasarts logo would display on the screen and then you played a game that was innovative and exciting and above all not Star Wars. Ballblazer, Koronis Rift, the Eidolon, Rescue on Fractalus, Monkey Island, etc, the list is long and illustrious.

Later, we went from cassettes to disks and the games were still creative and often hilarious. Then the Star Wars games started to appear and whilst the early ones were brilliant, creativity and innovation took a back seat.

Sadly, as the focus shifted more and more on Star Wars, Lucasarts has turned in on itself and a once great and much loved developer is no more. I'm sorry, but the glory days are over. Star Wars killed innovation and creativity at lucasarts.
