Would Skylanders Toys Succeed Without The Video-game?

Andy Robertson writes: "As Skylanders Swap Force promises to expand Activision’s toy range, I test whether the video-game features really add to Skylanders’ physical play and collect-ability for children."

The story is too old to be commented.

Why would a kid want Spyro the deformed dragon and the gang if they weren't attached to a TV show or video game?

Exactly! Toys are more successful when attached to a narrative. See: GI JOE, Transformers, Ninja Turtles, etc..

If they were more than statues with movable arms, perhaps. The toys don't do much. If they were action figures that did more stuff they would probably appeal more so without the need for a game.

i dont even know how this took off like it did? why were you guys buying your kids this stuff? and shame on older gamers who are buying these toy for the game. its the biggest rip off eveer. So now spyro is super cool all of a sudden. i actually forgot it was somehow tied to spyro the dragoon. statue toys for the loss and dlc to gt to the full game for the loss. i mean how many of these do you have to buy to finally get the full game lol. How long is the full game.

pokemon could of done this with the games buy a toy irl and you can get the mon in game but they didnt because its such a rip off.
