Yearly releases are becoming common place for many franchises. But what is too much?
When the story remains captivating, I hardly notice.
Can't say milk without cod being mentioned, the story is pretty good In the cos games tho
Well if there's demand I guess
I would prefer if instead of having two teams making one IP. They should have one team working on new IPs and the other on a stablished franchise. People will always want sequels from games that they enjoy, myself included; but they should come at least every 2 years. Maybe that's why Nintendo gets away with releasing the same franchises for over 20 years. They don't do them yearly (Except for New Super Mario Series which they are burning to the ground). Zelda, Metroid, Star Fox, Smash Bros., Pikmin, etc they all come 3 or more years apart from each other. That's the way it should be. Leaving fans anticipating the game, but having enough time apart to look forward to it without forgetting about it, but also having enough improvements technically, and with gameplay that it would get more attention from fans and media.
Doing the least amount of work, but charging the top price. I agree with colonel179, games should not have a yearly release. Every two to three years so that developers actually have to work for their money. I don't support companies that feel they need to release the same crap every year. I'm a fond supporter of innovation, uniqueness and companies that are willing put in the hard work.
I agree with you but they wouldnt do it if they were not making money. This money becomes a revenue stream that Ubisoft can invest in continuing and new ips like watch dogs etc. I think gamers will buy AC4 because AC is proven quality, it will ne next gen, and deep down they want it to be great so badly. Also, its a ship and sea game and AC3 proved that the naval mechanics were pretty good. Also, its a pirate game. But, if the protagonist is bad, the story is bad or it continues to simply be a boring ride through a gorgeous environment, it will be the end. The next go around will be sad. Its the perfect time for the series with next gen tech but this is gonna be the most important iteration since AC2.
Everyone seems to forget that frequent releases mean that the games are more likely to be price-cut by the time you're actually ready to play them. Getting the game that I want, when I want it and not having to pay full price? That's a win-win in my book.
Man I hate to be the one but call of duty is "too often" at least assassins creed is doing different themes not that im disregarding the difference of work between treyarch and infinity ward but atleast have different textures and engine upgrades
just like these articles!! they are not often, theyre too ogten, theyre begining to piss me off now this n4g is just spammed with 'franchises that need to take a break' 'when often is too often'
