Tomb Raider Review | ScrewAttack

ScrewAttack: "Reboots are made with the idea of starting a franchise over, which implies the desire to make more in the new style. If the next entry in the refreshed Tomb Raider series is as well-designed, focused on character development, and fulfilling to play as this one, I'm on board for whatever adventure Crystal Dynamics will take gaming's number one lady on next." (PC, PS3, Tomb Raider, Xbox 360) 9/10

I agree it is indeed one of the most polished games in recent memory. I think this game's own franchise history is effecting its score. Next Generation this revamped Tomb Raider direction will blend the tomb raiding of past games with the epicness of the new one.

The game pretty much plays itself..much like uncharted yet WORSE with some things just placed awkwardly to easily figure out. This tomb raider reboot could have used a much more realistic approach with survival, considering everything about it...the top notch jungle settings, smooth animations and just lara's overall apperance and voice worked so well together but IMO fell short with the cheap and overused linear approach with little to NO exploration, hell even MGS3 does it better. Not to mention you can't even swim.

Some puzzles were rather well done but just unrealistically placed and made in sync with another scripted over the top environmetal damage event..every 10 secs she was breaking through **** or some explosions happened...not to mention the f'en red barrels...do games srsly still use them? This generation is getting worse with things being on rails/hollywood style gunplay. The game only deserves a 7, but of course kids and the majority fall for nastalgia and her looks and sex like voice acting. if this was any other game it would have been missed. I know i am beating a dead horse with this but it needs to be said over and over. We need games that lets the player think, this is another case of survival horror turned action...rather exploration/puzzle turned action...its pathetic.

OH and the cinematics...LOL, everthing had to be overdramatic with each step...entering anything pans the camera into a slow quicktime event or cinematic one...breaking gameplay consistancy. Just watch movies.

You sound like one of them guys who just rushed through it for the story instead if looking around. Yes the story takes a liner path but there's side quests, treasure, hidden tombs and places to go which we're previously unavailable because you didn't have the right equipment, hence why they give you a fast travel option.

As much as I was looking forward to this new rendition of tomb raider I've only been playing for 2 days and it's amazingly good

I didn't really pay any attention to this game until the reviews starting coming out a week before it's release. The game sounded good and I picked it up...and shockingly enough, (in my opinion) it's the best game I've played so far this year. You can cry about linearity and cinematic sequences but I'm still enjoying the hell out of video games. I have thoroughly enjoyed the Uncharted franchise and Tomb Raider seems to be in that same vein of games, there aren't a ton of games out there like that so I'm glad Tomb Raider has taken the position that it has. I'll be there day 1 to purchase the sequel as well.
