Destructoid. EA: SimCity's broken because it's just too much fun

Jim Sterling writes, In what has to be the most incredible display of PR spin seen in a videogame crisis, an Electronic Arts spokesperson has claimed SimCity's notoriously awful DRM setbacks are a result of the game being just too gosh-darn enjoyable to quit! No, this isn't an Onion article.

"What we saw was that players were having such a good time they didn't want to leave the game, which kept our servers packed and made it difficult for new players to join," explained senior producer Kip Katsarelis on EA's forums.

The remark has already led to SimCity being renamed to SpinCity (thanks to Hollander Cooper!) in celebration of an almost impressive bit of damage control. SimCity is now the game too fun to work, and it's all your fault for wanting to play it so badly.

How do you get companies to be more honest when its soooooo easy for them to lie?

zerocrossing2026d ago

I would say just stop buying their games and supporting them, only problem now though is there are so many gamers who are out of the info loop, who are either blissfully ignorant to these mispractices or just plain don't care.

Either way it doesn't look like it's about change anytime soon...

I don't like violence in most cases, but if that PR dude had said that to my face, I would have knocked him the f*ck out....

That's one of the most disrespectful thing I've seen a company say to its customers who paid money for their product which is not working, but can't get a refund either.

I would knock him the f*ck out, and throw a few coins at him, microtransaction B!tch

"I would knock him the f*ck out, and throw a few coins at him, microtransaction B!tch"

I would pay money to see that haha.

simcity is fun but it sucks that 2 shitty features ruin the whole experience

1) Online
2) Small maps

like simcity 4, I want to build a whole region, those highways, the airport lol FUN TIMES, build tunnels, ...

Th4Freak2026d ago

What fun if they cant even play the game?

ThanatosDMC2026d ago

Sounds like Diablo 3. It took me a week before I finally got in and there were constant drops after that. Blizzard's community managers even said that it was our fault because of our routers, internet service providers, firewalls, etc. Then they had a patch to finally allow people to get in... well, that's Activision for you I guess.

SleazyChimp2026d ago (Edited 2026d ago )

See thats how dumb this company thinks its customer base is. Awe hell we'll just tell them its too much fun and they'll believe it, after all they bought a game that has to be online all the time to even play it! We are all mindless sheep to them, and every person who buys this game and supports them is proving them right.

Merrill2026d ago

Hahaha, I just said yesterday they would find a way to blame the gamer's and lo & behold here it is, un-fucking real.

Kevlar0092026d ago

So let's see, Activision milks franchises practically to death and EA abuses and misuses their playerbase.

Congrats EA, you're beating Activision, but not in a good way

FarCryLover1822026d ago

It's funny in a way because even Activison do not have all these micro-transactions, online passes, etc.

With Activision, all the DLC are more compact. There's not thousands and thousands of items that range in price from cheap to pricey.
