Examiner: 'Tomb Raider' re-establishes the franchise among the best in gaming

"Tomb Raider" is one of the most storied franchises in the history of gaming, and it has been around for generation after generation of consoles, and this new installment captures Lara at her very earliest beginnings.

Grittiness is something that fits the story given the tone in which everything is presented. Crystal Dynamics committed to a certain tone in this game and they were consistently hitting that feel all throughout.

The unpredictability to this game is great and really tests people's reactions. If you are not paying attention to certain themes in this game, you will really have a hard time staying alive.

In addition to the customization, people will love the scattered salvage and collectibles that are all around the world. Seriously, you will not want to move onto the next part of the game until you've collected everything. (Tomb Raider, Xbox 360) 5/5

Playing my 2nd play through on hard now. Fun as hell and looks better than many PC games(Im talking console version) blows any other console game out of the water.

This time doing 100% completion before I move on unless upgading is needed.

You can tell this game has set a new standard. No reviewer dares mention the graphics like they would any other game even if less impressive. No comparisons flooding the web. No praise even though when you play it you can't belive what you're seeing.

No outright praise out of fear of being attacked mixed with media trying to get the hype of the visuals under wraps

I'd have to agree about the graphics. I'm like 50% in the game and there are times when I have to stop to take in the scenery. I play it on PS3, and it has many times where it looks better than any game I've played. I would say it's on par with Uncharted 2/3 if not better looking. And of course the gameplay is solid as hell.

Looking at a game like Tomb Raider makes me think that next gen isn't needed yet.

It certainly looks stunning on the PC. I'm still early on, but it is very well put together.
