Team Meat on Consoles: "it goes from us making art and it turns into business."

From GamesReviews

"Team Meat have been pretty vocal about their time spent developing Super Meat Boy on Xbox 360 - it wasn't a good time. When they first shared their experiences in September 2011, a lot of other developers came forward and had similar comments. In short, Microsoft didn't care about smaller developers, and made it pretty clear that appearing on a Microsoft console was reward enough for months of sweat and hard work. Some had hoped that the "outing" might have made Microsoft reevaluate their third party practices, but Edmund McMillen of Team Meat says things are still just as bad as ever."

Edmund McMillen :

“You look at Kinect and that was the most ham-fisted garbage device in the world, but they got it moving because they invested s***loads of money in it and advertised"

the sad reality.

matgrowcott4064d ago

Yeah, I didn't want to lead with that one. The message as a whole was better than the Kinect-smashing.

It's a great quote though.

Cupid_Viper_34063d ago

The best part of this whole Kinect thing for me, was watching people deny how obviously fake the presentations were during E3 and other shows. Major lag everywhere with actors and all that.

Yet, they were the same people who would claim that the Xbox version of some multiplats had 6 more pixels on screen than their PS3 counterpart.

The fans defended kinect pretty hard, and now rumors have it that kinect is going to be a necessity for the Next Xbox. Job well done guys...

$500,000,000.00! You can buy entire basketball teams with that kind of money, lol. But you guys got Kinect.

@Cupid_Viper

I wrote an article back in 2009, just after the Kinect announcement: "Has Natal Already Failed?"

(Remember Natal?!)

http://n4g.com/news/453453/...

The article is long dead, but the comment section is a little slice of Xbox Defense history. It was a different time!

BitbyDeath4063d ago

Maybe they'll get it working properly on the next Xbox

from the beach4063d ago

Maybe people bought it because companies like Harmonix, Sega, Rare, Lionhead, Double Fine, From Software, Crytek, Grasshopper, Twisted Pixel, Grounding, Frontier and Q Entertainment -- companies people actually give a damn about, unlike Team Meat -- made games for it.

Army_of_Darkness4063d ago

It's funny coming from team meat considering that their game was an xbl exclusive no??

Pandamobile4062d ago

Wat. In what universe is Super Meatboy an XBL exclusive.

from the beach4062d ago

From Software made Steel Battalion, Grasshopper made Diabolical Pitch and Crytek are making Ryse - which is currently MIA but presumed next gen.

Epic are all but confirmed to be making a Gears RTS on Kinect next gen, by the way. Could be very nice.

DevilishSix4063d ago

I understand what they are saying, but it is a business and if their games didn't sell they would be out of business. It's always nice to speak of the high road though.

matgrowcott4063d ago

I think they realize that, whether they accept it or not. I think the issue is that it gets to a point where, for example, they want to give out free DLC or perform a title update, and the company they're dealing with starts rubbing their hands together.

It has to be treated as a business, but at the same time, you have to let the developers work for free for the benefit on their fans if they want to. That option absolutely has to be there.

Typical 'indie dev' talk.. bash big, successful businesses while peddling hokey, amateurish, 2D games as 'art'.

Aven Colony (Xbox One/Xbox Series)
Super Meat Boy (Xbox 360)

RpgSama693d ago

This is just plain sad, they are basically charging you for online and that's it, I guess this goes hand in hand with the "tell me you only play AAA games without telling me you only play AAA games"

Both Gamepass and Gold games offerings have gone way downhill.

autobotdan693d ago

Super Meat Boy was a Games with Gold title back in 2016..It's leftover Meat from 2016

Eonjay692d ago (Edited 692d ago )

So then GWG is like Spam.
And yes that was a double entendre.

I actually really enjoyed Aven Colony when it was on Gamepass. I got it for free from Epic Store a few months back.

I’ll give it another go.

Such a great decade for video games

IMissJimRyan1566d ago

Rayman Legends for me is the winner.

SyntheticForm1566d ago

Plenty of greats, but Ori hands down for me.

Hollow Knight a close second.

NecrumOddBoy1566d ago

They put Celeste in the honorable mentions. Such a shame, this game is premium in platforming. Rayman is also def a 10/10 platformer.
