IGN: Unboxing God of War: Ascension's Special Edition
Come see Ascension's special edition goodies, including a beautiful Kratos statue and a whole bunch of extra perks... like a demo for The Last of Us!
(God of War: Ascension, PS3)
Yeah, I don't think it looks that great. I'm just getting the standard edition. I stopped buying the collector's editions after I got bummed by Darksiders 2, ($128 > $66 two months later). Also, games like Gears 3 and Uncharted 3 had their special editions going for like $30-$50, down from $150 (Gears 3) and $128 (Uncharted 3). That was in Australia.
I now buy my games in standard edition, or limited, but never 'collectors'. I usually wait for those editions and trade in my standard edition towards it.
I will be getting this one eventually, as I am a huge fan of these editions, but the standard is good enough for me.
What did you expect? It's an $80 Edition. $15 figure, $5 for content, however you want to break it down. These figures are typically all the same. Nothing special but special in their own right. I mean it's not like they go including a HQ figure that would cost $100-200+ MSRP.
I think it looks good. My problem comes in terms of what BanBrother is saying. All too often we see these editions selling for much cheaper a month, two, three months down the road. Like last Fall I bought the Max Payne 3 Edition for $44. My Halo 3 Helmet, Helghast Edition, etc were all significantly less 3-6+ months down the road. Mind you those are 2 awesome editions as well. Granted some great packages like GoW3, AC Revelations, Dead Space 2 etc maintain their price for the most part but seeing so many of these "Collectors Editions" selling for so cheap just a few months later makes it increasingly hard to swallow their price or to justify buying them. Hoping that you haven't pissed away good money by jumping the gun... not often I'd sell any of them but how does resale value hold? if I decide to sell it 3+ years down the road am I going to get what I paid? Guess that's a gamble with any of these.
More and more lately I've resisted the urge to upgrade. I think there's only been a couple times I got burned or regretted the Collectors Edition. I think most I've bought tend to hold their price well. Even the Helghast Edition I got for a great price at release after a coupon for $20 off + $50 Gift card. Of course that's one I doubt I'd ever sell because those helmets are just too dam cool. I'm really mixed here. I have GoW 3 Collectors Edition, the figure is cool, the steel case is sweet, I do have a $20 coupon code but.... action figures are always cool but do I really need more junk laying around?
For everyone saying it looks cheap, keep in mind the price of this. $79.99. So for $20 more you get a statue and a steal case for the game, along with the digital items.
Gotta agree with you there, I don't buy collectors editions when they come with toys/statues. Much rather have a nice case or something like the Last of Us survival edition.
Its worth it! Picked up the CE today and the statue is worth $20 alone! Has some nice detail, must see it in person. Comon, for only $20 extra, youre not gonna get a sideshow collectibles statue. Also, for the amount of all the extra stuff you get there is no reason to complain. All the future dlc and a nice steelbook case. Game is great so far!
No problem! I rarely ever buy these kind of editions. Only 2 collectors esitions i own are marvel vs capcom 3 and force unleashed. There is also a gow dynamic theme and playstation all stars 2 free dlc characters. Zeus from gow and Isaac from dead space.
Statue looks awesome : )
