Miyamoto Says He’d Rather Create New Video Games Than Work On Remakes

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is being remade for Wii U, but does Nintendo plan on enhancing more older games to bring them to its latest console? In an interview, GameSpot asked Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto whether the company is considering remaking more games for Wii U. Miyamoto replied by saying he can’t talk about titles that Nintendo hasn’t announced to the public, and that he is more interested in creating new video games, rather than working on remakes.

This is one of those things that I love about Nintendo devs. They prefer to create bring news things to the for front.

I've never been fond of remakes and HD rereleases. If the game was good then let it be. Rerelease the actual original game. Don't f*** with the formula.

Reason for this is that the thing that make a game good is all attributes done in a certain order at a certain time. When thing are remade they try to "update", or "improve" the the game which distorts the formula that made it good and often makes it less good.

This is why I just can't comprehend why people want a remake of FF7. The talent that made the series big has changed(read quit and gone elsewhere), the times have change and what they will get is completely different and more than likely a "less good" game that cashes in on FF7's namesake.

We need new games in the industry. Let the time of remakes and revamps end. With that said, will be looking forward to Wind Waker HD to see if they've made it any better.

"This is one of those things that I love about Nintendo devs. They prefer to create bring news things to the for front"

So why haven't they been doing this lately...

They've been relying on Mario and Zelda for years

The only new game coming out made by Nintendo for the Wii U is Pikman 3 but even then it's an old franchise.....took then long enough.

Deku-Johnny1150d ago

Every Zelda game is something new though that's the point. The only reason Sony and Microsoft don't rely on the same franchises over and over is because they haven't been able to establish a franchise good enough to do so. If either of them managed to create an IP that was able to carry on for over 25 years then they'd rely on that more than anything. Like Microsoft with Halo and Gears, they're trying to make those franchises their Mario and Zelda.

3-4-51150d ago

Yes Mario & Zelda games account for about 30% of their games...

You can't just ignore the other 70% of games that aren't Mario related just because you dislike Nintendo.

Same could be said of that overrated series God of Generic War, or Uncharted.

_QQ_1150d ago

Mario galaxy is more inovative in one game than killzone1-3 ,all the halos, gears of war1-3, and uncharted 1-3 are combined, just because they use the same character doesn't mean the games are all the same. i don't understand why this is so hard for people to comprehend. and i have played all the games i listed, i'm not a fanboy, just stating the facts.

Oh come on it's a fantastic game but it's not inovative.

It's basicaly a 3D Mario game in space

It has the same structure of Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine. For me Mario 64 was inovative because I at the time hadn't seen anything like it but Mario Galaxy, while good looking and had fantastic gameplay which took the 3D Mario games forward, didn't offer anything new...except for a new setting and new power ups

@3-4-5

"You can't just ignore the other 70% of games that aren't Mario related just because you dislike Nintendo."

Dislike Nintendo....so me criticizing Nintendo is me disliking them completely. Right that makes so much sense /s

I like Nintendo, I just think they arn't as creative as they were back in the Nes/N64/Gamecube days when they took risks with new IPs.

It's took them long enough to make Pikamn 3, a new Yoshi game which in a way isn't what fans really wanted (Yoshis Island 2 anyone), no Starfox, no F-Zero, Luigis Mansion was pushed to a handheld, Chibi Robo I could go on...

So whats the other 70% you speak of then? Games other then Mario and co that were DEVELOPED by Nintendo

@Deku-Johnny

"Every Zelda game is something new though that's the point."

Really because I was highly disappointed with Skyward Sword. It was such a step back for the the franchise.

_QQ_1150d ago

@root, maybe inovative was the wrong word, but when it comes to gameplay varietty, i believe the statement is correct, you are almost never doing the same thing twice in not just galaxy but most nintendo games. better than most of those so called "Fresh" new IP's that are just more driving simulators or basic shooters with a minor tweak to the gameplay.

PopRocks3591149d ago (Edited 1149d ago )

@Root

Why do you insist on suggesting that Mario and Zelda sequels bring nothing new to the table?

When were you using a water powered jetpack in Mario Galaxy? When were little aliens helping you in Mario 64? When in Ocarina of Time were you flying on a large red bird? When in Wind Waker was the moon about to crash onto the earth?

They are not the same game and all they share is their formula. A formula that works. The moment they stop appreciating that is the sooner Mario and Zelda fall into the same crappy obscurity that Sonic has fallen into.

90% of all statistics are made up :/

Root1149d ago

@PopRocks359

Yeah they are part of the story which adds to the gameplay. You can;t really add a water jet pack to Mario Galaxy can you so of course they had to come up with something else

The point is the game play is roughly the same as it was years ago.

Sigh...... this again? Ok, new nintendo games on just 3DS and Wii U alone:
Nintendo Land
Project X
Steel diver
Kid Icarus 3 may as well be a new franchise
rolling western
pushmo
Sakura samurai
Freaky forms
fluidity
harmoknight
Wonderful 101 (Nintendo helped out and are publishing)

Root1149d ago (Edited 1149d ago )

@AWBrawler

Nintendoland - Thats just a minigame collection to show off what the Wii U can do.

Project X - Developers - Banpresto and
Monolith Soft

Kid Icarus 3 - Not new is it though

Rolling Western - Developers - Vanpool

Freaky Forms - Developers - Asobism

Fluidity - Developers - Curve Studios

Wonderful 101 - Developers - Platinum Games

Most of those games were not developed by Nintendo, just published by them. Some were though but still they aren't really the next new franchise are they. Oh and most of them were for the 3DS, were talking about the main console here.

EDIT: Below

"Those are all "Nintendo I.P.s". regardless of who helped develop them. If they weren't then that would mean that Sony had no original I.P.s last gen because it was always studio outside of Sony that made its major titles."

Are you serious....Sony owns their studios Nintendo dosen't own the majority of the studios above like Platinum Games or Curve Studios.

lilbroRx1149d ago (Edited 1149d ago )

First, they have been creating new series and still are. Right now, for the Wii U, they have the Wonderful 101, Measure Up, Monoliths X, Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, Pokemon Scramble U, Nintendo Land, and this is only the first year.

On the Wii they had, Fluidity, Wii Sports, Rhythm Heaven, Wii Fit, The Last Story, Wii Music, Xenoblade, Pandora's Tower, FlingSmash, Wii Party, Epic Yarn, Excite Truck, Punch Out, Excitebots, Another Code R, Battalion Wars 2, Big Brain Academy etc, etc.

Second, Mario and Zelda are characters. The actual games that feature them are completely different from the previous in the majority aspects.

They never release more than 2 major Zelda/Mario games per gen. There have been only 3 major Zelda/Mario console games released in the past 12 years. How people spin this as being the only thing they create is beyond me.

NOTE: Those are all "Nintendo I.P.s". regardless of who helped develop them. If they weren't then that would mean that Sony had no original I.P.s last gen because it was always studio outside of Sony that made its major titles.

How many times has Ocarina of Time been redone now? like 18 times?

linkofrs1150d ago

Well actually its been redone once, twice if you count masterquest but that was not fully released until the 3ds. However it has been ported 3 times(one of those times being a windwaker preorder bonus. Honestly that's not that ridiculous. The only time they marketed a port was for the 3ds. However I do agree with your main point they should be focused on making new games. But I don't blame them for not, everytime they do make a new game noone talks about it at all.

PopRocks3591149d ago

Ocarina of Time has been ported twice and remade once, actually. The closest it ever got to a remake in a sequel was Twilight Princess which had some of the same elements and landmarks.

So saying it's been remade "like 18 times" is as gross an exaggeration as it gets.

Reverent1149d ago

@linkofrs, Masterquest came out on the gamecube years before the 3ds was even out.

lilbroRx1149d ago

1

Unless you count the masters question which was simply a rearranged version made for hardcore fans, not a remake.

what are you talking about? that's just nonsense.

You love something about nintendo devs that does not even exist?

Pretty interesting.

LOL_WUT1149d ago

Its quite common for Nintendo fans to react like that but, that one takes the cake. ;)

I'm glad that Miyamoto thinks this way it might be a little too late considering how he's planning on retiring soon.

xXBlondieVanHarlowXx1149d ago (Edited 1149d ago )

I always though HD re-releases were meant for people who missed out on them the first time around. I personally missed the Sly trilogy back in the Ps2 era, thanks to the Sly collection i was able to play em (in 3D). I think half of the reason they're made is so that the newest generation of gamers can experience great games (the whole freaking world doesn't revolve around you,,, you know <_<). There's also people who want to replay the game for nostalgias sake. Either way, as long as the flow of HD re-releases doesn't stop the constant flow of current sequels (Uncharted 3, God of War:A, Sly 4) or new Ip's (The last of us, Beyond, the puppeteer) then i have zero problem with them sticking around, and neither should you.

As for this

"This is one of those things that I love about Nintendo devs. They prefer to create bring news things to the for front."

I can't even tell if you're serious.

bullymangLer1149d ago

things keep sounding like ive dreamt . ants eye view pikmin game . 1st it is announced that we will be able to snap pics of the monsters, and they look to be face to face with the player . now it has been stated that pikmin 3 will go "deeper than before" = my dream was to be able to look around in 1st person with the gamepad, just like street view . . these pikmin games have always been in at a birds eye perspective . and to be able to look around the land for items in 1st person = ants eye view!! . . game changer!!!!!!

Where are the new games?i'm not talking about different versions of Mario and Zelda..

lilbroRx1149d ago

They are abundant if your are not blind.

People just pretend not to see them for some reason.

LightofDarkness1150d ago

Then let him do it. He's clearly quite good at it.

HalfNerdHalfAmazing1150d ago

If Nintendo gonna remake a game they should remake a game that everyone wants, since last year E3 all Nintendo fans been asking for is for a majora mask remake but instead we get a wind waker remake I'm not saying wind waker is a bad game but this is not what Nintendo fans want

Deku-Johnny1150d ago

They have announced they're going to work on Majora's Mask or A Link to the Past for 3DS rather than Wii U.

PopRocks3591149d ago

What I heard was they were unsure which 3DS remake to decide to make first. We'll probably find out about it either in a new Nintendo Direct or at E3.

clintagious6501150d ago

Id love a Mario RPG 2. Id buy a wii u just for that game or a new zelda with real life graphics. Bring the zelda world to life.

Ck1x1149d ago (Edited 1149d ago )

Zelda is not a real life story so why does it need real life graphics? The Zelda HD experience was detailed just enough without trying to achieve photo-realism.

clintagious6501149d ago (Edited 1149d ago )

Yeah true but its bout time we experience a darker world of zelda. Trust me it would not hurt to bring the zelda world with even fallout 3 graphics would be awesome. Kind of tired of the cartoony look. I want zelda to come to the darkside with an immersive world we can explore but keep the same gameplay mechanics & all the little cool side quests. Its bout time they bring zelda to life especially since the wii u is capable of doing it. I bet ppl at e3 would go NUTS if they ever did that.
