To Update Or Not To Update Review Scores

TCO writes:

"We’ve talked about it before and Scott and I agreed that we review the game based on the state it was in when we played it, score it appropriately, and that’s that. We have added updated information to a review, but we’ve never changed the score once it was posted. Part of me still agrees with this and part of me is starting to think that maybe changing the review score, in certain situations, would benefit the most important person in the equation; You. This is me thinking out loud and letting you in on my thoughts on the topic. Let’s see where they take us." (PC, PS3, Wii U, Xbox 360)

To me, i want the review score at launch. Why? Because that is when i drop $60 for it. In a year, when i can get it for $10, i dont care if they made it better. Maybe a site can do that. Be somebody that updates games later on (i copyright this idea lol). But, launch is important.

That being said, i think for goty considerations and bonus rewards or legacy, games can also be looked at again (another site for this) that talks about support for the game and looks at it in retrospect of other released titles too. U may give a game a 9.5 and then another game releases of the same vein that is much better with better support but isnt perfect. What do u give it?

Soon, next gen will be here. How will that work? Many will be released on different platforms. I dont envy reviwers that have integrity when they attempt to tackle this. Maybe a look later down the road would make for a great site, especially now that next gen is coming and the market is saturated with games.

I think updating a review is ok but not changing the score or if you do at least leave the original score and then put a "patched review score" if the patches or dlc really add that much more to the experience, however, i would definitly asterick* or highlight anything that was changed and emphasize that the scores were changed based on patches, dlc, etc.
