GR - "The voice of Solid Snake wants to know if you'd be okay with someone else taking his role in MGS: Ground Zeroes."
If he wants to take a break from doing Snake's voice, then that's totally understandable. I just hope they can find somebody to fill in his shoes.
There'll only be one david hayter, but I don't think it'll be too hard to find another voice actor who'll do a convincing solid snake. But you'll be able to tell it isn't him.
How did this get approved with that title?
The ones that approved this article doesn't know how to read/ write English themselves that's why this got approved. LOL! On topic: Is he really that busy to not be able to do the voice of snake in a MGS game? a game that comes out every several years?! Oh well, whatever, as long as the next game is great I'm all in.
yea, i read the title about 3 times trying to process it, clicked to see if yoda wrote the article
@Army_of_Darkness Yeah I know, I mean, even North Americans can somewhat write in, and understand English.
I want to who edited title. Is Trainwreck! Not even the glorious Mark Hamill could do Joker forever. The vocal baton has to be passed eventually.
It's simple - David Hayter asked for way more money, and is leveraging the fans to get him more money. Don't people get it? There's a reason he's tagging Kojima and Konami Productions. He wants them to know that without him their game won't sell, and will piss tons of fans off. He's right, the reaction by and large has been terrible.
It's definitely possible for someone to do justice to Snake. I mean, does anyone remember Mako? The iconic voice of Aku in Samurai Jack, or Iroh in Avatar: The Last Airbender? Mako died before the third season of Avatar and was replaced by an American voice actor named Greg Baldwin (who was in Assassin's Creed 2, Rainbow 6: Lockdown, F.E.A.R., Bioshock) who studied Mako's voice so much that he was able to perfectly duplicate it. It's uncanny how identical he sounds. This is a video that switches the roles of Iroh and Aku as voiced by Mako. http://www.youtube.com/watc... This is the tribute song done for Mako by Greg Baldwin after his death and after Greg replaced him on Avatar. http://www.youtube.com/watc... So we can see that, even if Hayter doesn't do Snake, he isn't irreplaceable. It's just a matter of finding the right voice actor.
It'd be sad but I'd deal. I would have to have snake's Japanese voice actor though
I'm sorry but I completely disagree with you. I understand if the man wants to take a break from the series, however like the comment above me said, there is only one David Hayter and he is in many fans mind THE solid snake. I cant imagine snakes voice being any different. The fantastic voice acting he did in MGS4 will never be portrayed any better by someone different especially since he's been doing snakes voice for years! I will not be happy if this was the case.
I actually think he did best in MGS2. Every game after that the voice sounds tired and redundant, like he's trying really hard for it to be Snake.
no no no, his best work, is and always will be MGS, nothing compares to it.
@ Decay I feel like many people dislike his voice in MGS4 because of how "shabby" it sounds. I think it made snake as a character stand out even more because it made sense! His aging body is taking a tole on him and his voice just fits so well with what is happening to him throughout the game. This was done intentional for that reason. He did a amazing job in every mgs game, which is why him leaving and having someone else portray as snake would change the character in general. I respect your opinion though!
Clint Eastwood should do the trick nicely.
Clint is an absolute legend
Nolan North to the rescue!
I doubt he will be able to give it justice bud.. Good suggestion though!
At this point i wouldnt be surprised if nolan is in the game somehow, the guy sells himself like a Vietnamese whore
@Kamikaze 135 you mean his size 52" shoes because it will be hard to do equal to his work. It would be ok would I like it Nooooooooooo
No Kojima better wait until he's ready
I think a character voice like Borat would be cool
LOL cool in a way that you would mute it, yeh xd
Nooooo Hayter has to do it. Unless they get the MGS4 Big Boss actor. Richard Doyle I think he was called. That could maybe work. BTW slight typo in title.
"Richard Doyle" Yep that's his name.
Yea i think its time
I agree Snakes' voice is vital for Who is Snake, just as the voice for Kratos is uniquely vital in a manner. Everyone thinks of Kratos, you think of one of his lines done in HIS voice. Same as you can't have someone replace Morgan Freeman HIMSELF! . . . But, under all circumstances, I'm unsure to the good acting abilities of Richard Doyle, but I as an MGS fan was fine with his voice being Big Boss in MGS4. It was older, unlike Old-Snake in MGS4 who was still old-but-gruff, but Big Boss in comparison in the likes was so old he lost his gruffy-voice so to speak? I'd not really think anyone else is capable.
Just like you can't replace this guy's legendary voice. All things CyberPunk!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watc...
"Same as you can't have someone replace Morgan Freeman HIMSELF! . . ." Ummm http://www.youtube.com/watc...
@DragonKnight Hey hey now, I was just trying to be respectful to the Real Morgan Freeman, I know 2 other people who do his voice great, lol. Like these 2: http://www.youtube.com/watc... http://www.youtube.com/watc... (2nd ^NSFW) and a few others of course..
My favorite Morgan Freeman impersonation was guy who did the voiceover used in the "Shawshank in a Minute" short. http://www.youtube.com/watc...
IF the man can't do it anymore (assuming that is why he tweeted this), then let him go. There are plenty of impressionist voice actors that could likely get the voice to sound close enough to Hayter's. Yeah, it's not exactly the same, but the man has been doing this for 15 whole years. He's no spring chicken anymore so JUST IN CASE he has to leave, I trust Konami to find a suitable replacement. This isn't the slave days: If the man can't do or wants to stop, then let him go.
How did this title pass the approval process?
it reminds me of this "Has anyone really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?"
Was that (at one time) an actual article title that passed on n4g? If so, then wow.
"I accidentally the whole thing!!"
Click the cogs and report it.
He is trolling.
must have spent too much time around Hideo
David Hayter wants to if you would do to Metal Gear Ground Zeros to you know if David Hayter. As well.
WTF, Absolutely NOT!!!!!
Would love actually to see Richard Doyle reprises his role as Big Boss in this game. At the very least, I want to see him as cameo when Big Boss was old before Metal Gear/Metal Gear 2 events.
If he wants to take a break, then he should. I'd rather not see him forced to.
This might be a little childish but to me Hayter is Snake so i don't want anyone else to voice him. I mean Doyle was ok and i understand why he got the part there cos it would've sounded stupid if Hayter was talking to himself in MGS4 but i just cant imagine Snake without Hater. And this version of Snake isn't that old like he was in 4 so it would be weird that Snakes voice changed in a year or two (time between Peace Walker and this). So i would ofc buy the game but i would be really sad if not angry.
Richard Doyle should take over as Big Boss. David Hayter should only voice Snake.
I understand if he doesn't but I would be pretty disappointed. His voice work as snake is my favorite voice acting in video games.
But that wouldnt be Snake then, its like Snake Plissken would be acted by anyone that isnt Kurt Russell it wouldnt work David its not just a VA he IS Snake.
Coming from left field... what if we didn't play as Snake? How about the story progresses and we get a new protagonist. Infamous 2nd Son Style
Outside of spin offs it has to be A snake . Be it the current , the older one or maybe yet a new one
It is "a" snake that we will be playing. It will be Naked Snake after he gained Big Boss status.
David Hayter "Wants To Know If", perhaps? *winks*
exactly my thoughts.
That's a hard one. David Hayter's voice is just so epic. I guess they could use Richard Doyle's voice, although it's not ideal. The change could be explained by Snake's smoking habit. Too many cigar's will do that.
I'll be disappointed if he doesn't do it. His voice is iconic.
Watch fucking Nolan North will be all over this. Nathan Snake.
I dread to think...
"Metal Gear...? Oh crap!" OT - Might be a contract negotiation ploy. lol Idk, I can't imagine anyone else doing the voice, but I can't say someone else doing it would keep me from buying the game, unless it was Richard Simmons or another equally odd choice.
I think if they can get someone close to the voice it wont be a problem. When Telltale games did the Back to the Future series they got someone who closely sounded just like Michael J Fox to do his voicover part.
Snake? Snake?! SNAKEEEEEEE!!!! I will be a sad snake if Mr Hayter stop being a Snake anymore T_T Snake is Hayter and Hayter is...Hayter.
I read this title at least 5 times.
"Kept you waiting, huh?" We'll miss his voice if he does but i'm sure he is trolling. and btw, the title messed my mind, thank you!
No way, once that starts happening. It becomes just another game. After having a spin off just put out. They need to get back to why we all love MGS in the first place....Snakes and with that comes the real deal people.
I think for Spin offs, such as this, sure go ahead. But in terms of the main games, he has to play him, no question about it. It's like Uncharted: Golden Abyss. I would have been totally fine if Nolan North didn't play drake, so long as he returned for the 4th and so forth
This is going to be an unpopular opinion and I know I'll be bombarded with disagrees, but not only would I be okay with it... I welcome it. I've found his performance as Solid Snake pretty lackluster and even at times annoying. He was really good in MGS1 but then he went downhill in performance there after. The voice in its gravel has just gotten too... cartoony.
I'd want him to stay in the main games at the very least. If he's tired of doing snake, then I guess it's alright. IT will be hard to let go, but we'll all get over it.
Hayter's call. Though I couldn't imagine it any other way...
