David Hayter Asks How Fans Would Feel if He Wasn't Snake

David Hayter's 15 year role of voicing Snake from the Metal Gear series may be over. A revealing tweet says it all. (David Hayter, Industry, Metal Gear, PS3, PS4)

I'd be gutted

no doubt
it'll suck...like when actors get replaced in movies.

It's simple - David Hayter asked for way more money, and is leveraging the fans to get him more money. Don't people get it? There's a reason he's tagging Kojima and Konami Productions. He wants them to know that without him their game won't sell, and will piss tons of fans off. He's right, the reaction by and large has been terrible.

I am a huge Metal Gear fan but I actually prefer Richard Doyle's version of Big Boss. It was master work in MGS4.
MysticStrummer  +   995d ago
@knowyourstuff - That was my first thought. Contract negotiation.
EeJLP-  +   995d ago
Sounds like he's trying to get paid $$$$$. See @HIDEO and Konami, they love me, pay me big $$$ or your next MGS will flop.

I see knowyourstuff beat me to the obvious.

Would I like the same person to voice Snake.. yes. But if there's someone that sounds the same, I'm sure he could be replaced if he's holding the game hostage for a unreasonable pay day.

Here's one from a 2 second YouTube search:

I'm playing MGS2HD VR missions at the moment btw.

That's like having Kratos give out lolipops instead of death wishes. No thanks.
Abdou23  +   995d ago
If he stops being snake then they should kill snake.

Problem is this is a duplicate article though....

I don't think it means anything, as it says 'informal poll'. I think GZ will be voiced by Hayter, unless they want to use Richard Doyle (which would be interesting too).
kostchtchie_  +   995d ago
i would have to rip that voice box out, cant have you voicing / playing anything else if you don't do snake :P
DigitalSmoke  +   995d ago
I can do Snake.
Relax, i got this.
Aleithian  +   995d ago
It would be unfortunate if he didn't continue. But if he does stop, it feels right that it be after MGS4. With the send off for Solid Snake in that game, now would be the best time to say goodbye to that era, if at all.

It'll be like Raiden replacing Snake in MGS2
nah, i'll probably get use to it when it catches on
but i hope you wont get replaced

The day he stops being snake is the day the MGS games stop being good? Sometimes we just have to let go. Let's hope any new Snake voice actors can do as good as a job as he did.

I think it would be great if they found a way to transition from David Hayter to Richard Doyle (the other Big Boss VA) throughout the game. Could be an interesting way to accompany the transition to the Big Boss that we know in the original Metal Gear.

Imagine if they keep going, and do a remake of Metal Gear. We'll have David Hayter talking to himself as two different people.

"Snake! Answer me! Snake! (BANG), NOOOOOOOOO!"

***spoilers for mgs4!! Read at your own peril!!***

I was left with a bad taste in my mouth when Richard Doyle did the voice of Big Boss.

Would I have wanted both Snake and Big Boss to have a conversation with the same voice actor? Yes. I never understood why they suddenly decided to make there voices different.

It would have been a little odd, no doubt. But no where near as jarring as it was for Big Boss to have a completely off sounding voice

I think it would have been *very* odd to have the same voice talking to each other, To the point it would have been comical and taken away from the drama of the scene. People tend to sound different when they're older anyway. It made sense.

Snake was old my friend. It was clear that Hayter was doing Old Snake.

So how is old snake different from Big Boss exactly? I want to make it clear that I'm not being rude(can't sense tone in text).

We obviously disagree with each other.

Doyle is not acceptable as Big Boss. Hayter=Big Boss. Big Boss=Snake. There are no variables.

Having them as the same voice was the way it should<<*edit* have been done. I feel silly saying this to a fan but Snake is a clone of, and was around the same age as Big Boss. So maybe Hayter could have done an 'older' voice for Big Boss.

Doesn't change the fact that they were nearly identical in every way(exceptions being foxdie, ect of course) and have had the same voice. It does not make sense to me for the voice actor to be different.

Oops but then in Peace Walker(God I still love that title ;) Hayter is right back at it voicing Big Boss.

I understand your point. The scene was already ridiculous with Big Boss even showing up in the first place. Metal Gear fans are used to bizarre. And them having the same voice actually made sense.

How do you know Big Boss wasn't on the receiving end of a karate chop or a line drive to the throat, which supposedly contributed to "Macho Man" Randy Savage's voice change?
Heisenburger  +   994d ago
No, you are wrong. Sorry.
KwietStorm  +   995d ago
I'm just saying although they're technically the same person, they're not the same person. Although Old Snake is technically old, he's not factually old. Yea its all bizarre like you said, But I still think it would have been silly to have them with the same voice. It just would have been weird and maybe even A little hard to follow. It wasn't a big deal to me because, like I said, I feel it made sense.

Pestilence. Famine. War. Death.
DarkBlood  +   995d ago
well i dont expect him to keep voicing it forever, however im still going to play the game regardless because its metal gear damn it lol
MrKim12  +   995d ago
It'd be like Michael Ironside leaving Splinter Cell.
fsfsxii  +   995d ago
Stupid assumptions everywhere, he is just WONDERING, WONDERING how would the fans feel.
People just love jumping to conclusions
Joe913  +   995d ago
I think it would suck but if you can't play the next metal gear because David H is not doing the voice of Snake then IMO you are not a true MGS fan Kojima is MGS not David H like RDJ makes a great Iron Man but if they replace him I will still see the movie cause I'm a Marvel fan.
