Game Guys' GDC 2013 preview

In just under a month, more than 22,000 people directly associated with the video games and electronic entertainment industry will descend upon San Francisco's Moscone Center for the 2013 Game Developers Conference (GDC).

A professionals-only event in its 27th year, GCD is a forum for learning, inspiration, and networking those who create game software for computer, console, handheld, smartphone, tablet, mobile, and online games. In short, it's a big deal. (Culture, Dev, GDC 2013, Industry, Next-Gen)

Only 5% of folks in attendance developing for the Wii U? Does that reflect more on the Wii U or on GDC?

Just like with the exact quantity of licks it takes to get to the chewy center of a Tootsie Roll Pop, the world may never know.

I would say at the moment, Wii U. Look at the laughable support it's received to date. Yes, it's early in its lifespan, but still.

IMHO, I think it is reflective on both parties. Granted GDC is for game developers, but the company that own the event should reach out to all developers regardless of the platform, not just the major heavy hitters. Also Nintendo should make sure these developers are there also. You want to create interest in your system, not hand over opportunities to your competitors. I felt that this was important for Nintendo to remind developers that they have a next gen console that is currently in the market and the focus should not be just of the PS4 and the Next Xbox. Because we all know, Sony will be showing tools for the PS4 and MS will be showing tools for the Next Xbox. I wouldn't be surprised, more tech demos are provided.

Developers have to propose topics and subjects for consideration at GDC.

If no one from Nintendo is proposing topics, they're not going to get any speaking time.

@Pandamobile,

One reason why I say it lays on both parties, but to your point it is more on Nintendo than anything...sad to say that...
