The Tomb Raider Reboot Was Going To Be A Lot More Like Shadow of the Colossus

Kotaku - Plenty of game developers profess their love for Team Ico's beautiful PlayStation 2 games Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. But few of them have made games that bear the traits of those quiet, lovely adventures.

The folks behind the new Tomb Raider tried to do that. And then shifted course. That's revealed in a new making-of app that is out today on the eve of a long-awaited reboot of the adventures of Lara Croft. (PC, PS3, Shadow of the Colossus, Tomb Raider, Xbox 360)

They have stuck to there roots pretty much, I wish they would have stayed along the original TR 1 and 2 roots a bit more, a little more exploration and puzzle solving, they have incorporated a lot of the Uuncharted series. The love child of the original TR and UC series...Not a bad thing as the UC series is top 5 this gen for me.But still TR should have been a bit more to it's roots...

I would have loved to see the series go more along the ICO series too.

But in the end, if I had been making the design choices, I would have wanted more original TR 75% with UC 25%. Instead it looks and feel's more like 25% TR and 75% Uc.

I think they could have incorporated SOTC boss battles interspersed within the game, that would have been extra frosting. A side kick ( like the monkey idea they had) that you work with too would have been extra nice too alot like what we saw and played with in ICO...

So original TR with a splash of UC, and an extra ICO side kick element; and add in some SOTC boss battles would have been off the charts incredible...That's the way I would have loved it.

Anyways, the game is the real deal still, having lot's of fun with it...

The older tomb Raider games had a lot of magical elements to them and something like this wouldn't be too far off. I haven't play the new Tomb Raider yet, but I do hope they have some mystical elements to it (or will be added in future installments). Does she even have dual pistols in the new game?
