Tomb Raider PC Ultra VS TRESSFX Settings

With the newly released Tomb Raider, PC gamers have been excited to see the graphical enhancements adorning the superior version of the game. In the graphics menu of the game, toggling to the highest setting still leaves one feature unchecked. Right above "ultra" is "ultimate", which enables "TRESSFX". The superior graphics mode is both highly graphics intensive and equally impressive. Below are two different videos featuring the changes in hair rendering with each mode toggled.

20% performance hit.........AMD will surely boost performance with their next driver update!!!

This is a great comparison, so easy to see the difference

amd = open standard. Nvidia = only on nvidia.

AMD = substandard

It runs on DirectX 11 which is grossly inefficient compared to a native CUDA application like PhysX. Not to mention TressFX looks like shit compared to nVidia's hair demo.

the hair jumps like crazy and is unnatural, definitely not worth buying a new card just for this "feature"...

and sometimes the ponytail disappears

the jumpy hair did look odd but the flow effect was beautiful an very nice. it also show the potential of what they can do with effects as they become more common, remember how jagged 3d game were 15 years ago? an now look at them.

Overall I'm liking the tressfx but there are times where her bangs defy gravity while her ponytail doesn't. Seems like something small they just overlooked.

Loving the game though.

Hmmm... the tressfx do give it a more realistic looking hair but it also give some weird unnecessary animations. They need to fix that.
