Assassin's Creed IV's promise of a seamless, open world

Destructoid - Despite all the leaks in the past week, there's still a ton of stuff to tell you about Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. The first thing is that the new game sees you playing as a pirate, but not the Disney romanticized, cliche style of pirates from films such as Pirates of the Caribbean or Treasure Island. "No hooks, no parrots, and no walking the plank," as one of the promotional trailers I saw stated. (Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, PC, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

It seem like open world is next-gen's new theme or next thing to have in your game to sell it (like First Person perspective was the last 2 generations).
