Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag has now been officially announced, but is the yearly cycle model a good fit for the brand? VG247′s Dave Cook argues for and against the move.
(Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, PC, PS3, PS4, Wii U, Xbox 360)
It does feel as if the franchise is getting milked, maybe if they just waited longer between sequels and implemented some unique game mechanics more people would start showing interest again.
It definitely feels like it is early. AC3 launched in November and AC4 has a release date of October! Ubisoft are now not even letting a full year go by before releasing another AC. They have found a cash cow and now they are going to milk its udders dry.
Reading these interviews... its seems like they understand what went wrong with AC3 and AC4 is bringing the best elements of all previous AC games
-Character is more like Ezio -Distinct locations -Less handholding -AC1 assassination structure -Less Load times -Reducing the clutter in AC3 by making hunting and crafting make sense -Make the player feel more involved and interested in the modern plot -A better upgrade system
It's disheartening to myself that even though they seem to understand their mistakes with AC3
Everyone including myself is skeptical.. or makes milk jokes
It seems that this game could be for AC3 what AC2 did for AC1
Which is a big shame since I think the franchise would benefit from a rest and a next gen makeover, but Ubisoft seem content on milking it to death in CoD fashion instead.

Developers always say "we know what went wrong" or "we're getting back to the what made the franchise good" and "we listened to the fans and blah blah blah (generic statement) "
Honestly, I would be extremely careful in not buying into what the devs are telling you, after all it's their job to sell you the product good or bad.
They need to take the franchise forward and not just fall back on what made Assassins creed good in the first place.
I just hope the story isnt as bad as Revelations since they have the same writer. So i'm forward to force romance. I will love being a pirate. I dont want to be a wannabe hero like Connor. I want to be evil and trash all military fleets. LOL
Eh, I'm glad they are releasing more AC baby. Nothing like CoD. I can spend hours in open world instead of a 4 hour single player campaign and then multiplayer that gets boring after about 30 - 60 minutes.
Just like Fallout..the more AC the better. Give me disagrees, I been running one bubble for two years!
Im all for having more assassins creed if it actually tried to mix things up a bit, it's jut too samey and tedious now, they need to let the franchise rest and bring it back next gen with a complete overhaul.
Keep buying the same thing over and over and that's what you'll get just like the CoD crowd.
We've seen this same article every year for the last few years. We know that not everyone will enjoy a new Assassins Creed franchise every year, but from a developer and publisher standpoint making money off this franchise every year probably helps fund some of their other risky ventures like Watch Dogs.
If you don't like it, don't buy it. I'll probably wait for a price drop, but I'm not going to dog the series, it's been consistently good since the beginning.
Yes,its way too early, but watch all of the ac fangirls say youre just hating its always room for another ac,its not being milked lime call of duty, and we all know thats just bs.
It was to soon for Brotherhood, Revelation & AC III after 1 & 2 imho let alone another game in the series releasing this year. Ubi has taken milking a series to a whole new level and I award that by not buying anything AC anymore.

I know, I need to take everything with a grain of salt since I was burned with AC3
But... I really want all of this to be true
Its no secret I love this franchise... but in that moment when you feel like its wrong to be excited for a game troubles me
I just want it to be good, and prove people wrong
I don't want to look like a fool, excited for a game everyone dismisses and mocks
It feels like a franchise I love is slowly dying... and I don't want that
I just want ubisoft to be smart with this one, and all future releases
No more annual releases, no more filler... just take their time and make solid compelling gameplay and stories... thats all
@ Nimblest-Assassin
That last response...
That was some heart-felt feels, Bro. All of it.
Some heart-felt feels from a true fan :'(
Man, I want AC to find its way too.
Just like Fallout..the more AC the better. Give me disagrees, I been running one bubble for two years!
Instead they complain about release dates.
Overall the story is what matters. As long as the story is not affected negatively there will be no dire issue.
Keep buying the same thing over and over and that's what you'll get just like the CoD crowd.
Love this! He's like I don't give a F'! XD
-Guns auto aim
-Assassin hides automatically
-1 button attack 1 botton blocks
I could play it in my sleep...

I would not be surprised that the AC3 developers are working on AC5 now.
/s
In all seriousness though, if they change things up a bit I'll probably get it and if not I'll pass. Simple.
Yes. They are quickly turning this into a CoD. Every year a new game and they get announced just a few months after the last one was made.
