NowGamer: Nottingham Trent University study finds 59.5% of gamers admit to having trolled online and those participating in the trolling 'tended to be younger, male and play for longer sessions.'
Every day I'm trollin'
in games its part of the fun are we expected to play all business like? @zerocrossing that's bigotry and its a different thing and totally wrong what meant is stuff like MAV kills in BF3 or pushing a sniper off a building (MAV again) or playing hit and run with the week punch till time runs out in SF4
No, but you are supposed to play with a certain level of consideration for other players, having fun at the expense of others doesn't strike me as an integral part of gaming. Harmless trolling is fine, but insulting other peoples race, gender or sexual orientation is just plain juvenile. (Edit) Well people actually do these things to troll other players too, but yeah you made your point.
Almost Two-Thirds Of Gamers Admit 'Trolling' Online And that's only the people admitting to it...
Exactly! We've all done it, it's just part of the fun. It's the people that are mean about it that it begins to annoy me.
but then again, 90% of them thinks trolling means to tea-bag someone in Halo.
I used to troll back in the day, then I hit puberty...
So did I, but it was an arrow to the knee that did it in for me.
Everyone does it, don't they? Even if you play nice 99% of the time, there's always that one time you mess with someone just because a 'hilarious' (read: not really that hilarious) opportunity presents itself to be a massive dickweed.
Get rid of handles, make everyone use their real names and would someone please enforce age ratings on games already. If you're 12 stop playing CoD!
The PS4 will be locking in on your identity so we will see if it stops people trolling and more importantly stop kids playing 18 rated games. Trolling can be funny though, even if you get caught out on the receiving end you can just laugh about it. Depends what the trolling is.
Nothing is going to stop kids from playing 18rated games
Isn't that true of all of the internet? Trolling just is.
It is good to educate yourself in the mechanics of trolling, look at a creationist vs evolutionist debate, most of the times the scientist doesn't even know he is being trolled.
On the N4G community.
Trolls trolling Trolls trolling Trolls
Not surprised at all.
It is the most pathetic & lazy way of expression, cause there ain't no magic in a breakdown, baby!
I personally don't troll and hate when others do it. Its ok to have a little trash talking before and after online matches but to just insult people for no reason other than "its amusing" is one of the biggest problems with the internet. People can say whatever they want with no repercussions that they're too spineless to say to your face. When you have nothing better to do than demean others for entertainment, how pathetic is your own life? We have laws that dont allow this in public and I feel there should be laws against this on the internet. People should respect other peoples feelings. Now I'm not talking about a little trash talk before or after a good online match. That is and always will be part of any form of competition. Im talking about the cowardly little loser whose only joy seems to be calling someone every name they can think of just to hear them get mad. What you say to people affects them. Maybe your trolling some guy who just lost a loved one or who might be contemplating suicide. If your trolling pushes them over the edge, you probably wouldn't care because your a troll. Trolls imo somewhere between maggots and cockroaches and should be treated az such. Extermination is a lovely concept but "free speech" being the hypocrisy that it is protects assholes just as much as decent respectful people. When someone pushes for an anti-trolling law on the internet I will back it. Until then, ill just be content with the mute button.
You should see the stuff that was going on when N4G had the Open Zone; this is nothing compared to back in the days on N4G.
It was the living embodiment of John Gabriel's Internet F*ckwad Theory Edit: And the Open Zone was MILES ahead of what came before it
Eh, everyone does it at some point. I've done it multiple times :) It's part of the fun of playing online. I'm pretty good at all games, so it's pretty easy to rub salt into the wounds after kicking butt XD There is however, a difference between trolling and personal insults. You can troll someone until the person is raging over their microphone, but as soon as you start insulting them on a personal level, then that is where I believe you have crossed the line. At that point it is just malicious.
When i get the "Sony is still feeling sorry, so send this to all your friends and receive blabla. ." I just reply back saying "OMG thanks so much it worked!" They ask for it. lol
