Have You got an Embarrassing Gaming Backlog?

Liam Pritchard of Brash Games writes "The sad truth is that we do not get time to indulge in our favourite button mashing past-time, usually due to niggling details like jobs, families, children etc… As a result, the backlog is born. Not everyone will have an enormous backlog, as they may have had the sense to stop buying games the moment they knew they wouldn’t have enough time to play them". (3DS, PC, PS Vita, PS3, PSP, Wii, Xbox 360)

i wouldn't say embarrassing but I myself am getting a large backlog. I have around 7-8 fighting games and 8 adventure, hack and slash, FPS games all on ps3. I barely finished half of all my games since i don't have time to really put in hours to complete them but yet a game gets announced and I'm there day 1 at a game store to buy it lol, games....

Same dilemma here. When I was young, I had all the time in the world to play video games, but no money to buy them. Now I have money to buy them, but no time to play them.
knowyourstuff  +   542d ago
How about you buy them when they're cheap and work on finishing your backlog of games before paying 60 bucks for a new one that will be 20 bucks by the time you even get to it? This is the only reason to be embarrassed. Having a life outside of gaming is something you should at least be proud of - that you aren't stuck inside all day playing games, you're actually experiencing real life.
grailly  +   542d ago
@knowyourstuff:
I wish I could be that disciplined, but it just feels to good owning a great game on release day, and feeling like you're discovering the game at the same time as everyone else.

ACIII, Dark Souls, Jak & Daxter HD collection, Hitman HD collection, Hitman Absolution, the list goes on. It really bugs me seeing my backlog when I'm something of a completionist...kills me inside.
WilliamH  +   542d ago
Those HD collections are a bitch to get through, too much game.
Cam977  +   541d ago
I too have the Hitman trilogy to do and I aim to Platinum them all. Contracts is easy because I SA'd the hardest level on Pro, Beldongford Manor which makes it a fairly smooth ride from herein. On the other hand, Hitman 2 is ******* hard on Pro, I think I can only do expert mode. Blood money SEEMS easy but getting SA is really strange as I always seem to gets 'Professional' rating instead.

In addition to Hitman Hd I have: Ratchet & Clank Trilogy, AC3, AC3:L, Fallout 3:GOTY, FarCry 3, FALLOUT NV:UE and Silent Hill: Downpour.

There's nothing wrong with collecting just for the sake of it either, I have about a thousand CD's and a couple of hundred LP's, some of them I listened to once and some I just bought because they were rare or limited editions and never listened to. Same with comics and books, I've got thousands of them and I read maybe two or three books a year.

@Mutant-spud collecting is a purpose among me having that many games including other related things etc etc

@pandaboy, nothing here was pirated sorry pal
Wagz22  +   542d ago
@pandaboy man good thing you do that, that why all the those pirated games that you enjoyed wont get the money to fund sequels or other projects… I don't mind pirating crappy games (Aliens *cough*) but to pirate ALL games even good ones that deserve the money is a little messed up.

I don't have a back catalog. Hell, save games like fallout I beat most SP games in a week or so. A good month has 2 games that intrest me so actually, im jonsing for a new game right now. Just burned through Quantum Conundrum on Plus so counting days to new BioShock.
Minato-Namikaze  +   542d ago
30 games, lol. I keep buying games but i dont have enough time to finish them, lol. Hopefully i can finish a bunch during the summer.
ASTAROTH  +   542d ago
250 PS3 games. . . thats without counting my PSN games, my 360 games, my Vita and my Wii. That was the main reason I didnt bought the Wii U. Half of those 250 games are even brand new sealed. My God Im really feels ashamed but I have more games than time to play them. LOL!

After I started college I noticed I didnt have as much time.
I havent finished:
Star Ocean:TLH
FFIV:The after years.
Red dead redemption.
grailly  +   542d ago
you should really finish RDR, it's one of the only games that has a really good ending.
jjb1981  +   542d ago
I have a huge backlog due to the fact that I feel obligated to play the multiplayer portion before the community dies down due to a call of duty release or some other triple A title. I still haven't finished fallout 3, dark souls or metal gear solid 4. I know, shame on me. I still own these games as well as 50+ games on steam that I haven't even started. My backlog is exceptional as well as embarrassing because you would think I would just finish them. Because of time constraints and an 11 month old son I am unable to enjoy these games to the fullest however I have learned to stick with finishing one game at a time. I am enjoying the hell out of far cry 3 whenever my responsibilities are taken care of.
Mutant-Spud  +   542d ago
Yeah, I know what that's like, you see something on Steam that's 75% off and think "Man I've always wanted to play that... and it's only $5.99! (squeal!)"
My kids are (a) older and (b) girls and I've tried to rope them into playing splitscreen or co-op but they're really not interested. I've even suggested to my wife that we play WOW or EVE together but she'd rather play Farmville with her friends..(sniffle) :(
grailly  +   542d ago
for a long time I've been really good at playing all my games, some I didn't finish, but at least I would have got a lot out of the experience. recently, though, I've started gathering many games I've never even launched, damn you PS+ and steam sales!
Mutant-Spud  +   542d ago
I've got a couple of games on Steam that I've hardly touched, Hearts Of Iron III, X3 Albion Prelude and Endless Space but the 360 "pile of shame" is pretty low at the moment, I'm still plodding my way through Skyrim and Battlefield 3 multiplayer but aside from a couple of bargain bin purchases nothing is sitting there reminding me that it cost fifty dollars and hasn't been opened yet.
belac09  +   542d ago
i have 28 ps3 games, i have finished dark souls and demons souls, tales of graces and ff 13 and 13-2, i have about 200 psp and ps1 games on my psp slim ;), and 20 3ds games and even more psp games on my vita and 4 vita games, and to top it all off i have all of the final fantasy and SMT games on the ps2.
_LarZen_  +   542d ago
Had over 60 console games in my backlog...sold them all.

This coming generation I am not doing the same mistake with hamstring games. Going old school again...buy 1 and play it to death...THEN buy a new one.

No more pre-order madness or cheap sale buys....im done with that crap.
thawind  +   542d ago
Couldn't have said it any better kudos.
BanBrother  +   542d ago
Larzen I have to agree.

Most the damage to the games industry has been done by the developers/publishers. Too many times I pre-order a game, and it turns out to be lackluster with disc locked content and day 1 DLC.

I hardly ever get games day one anymore. This month being the exception. GOWA because I haven't played a decent hack n' slash in ages, Bioshock Infinite because I don't want the story ruined and Gears J for my multiplayer fix.

Next-gen I am not giving greedy companies the benefit of the doubt. One game per month tops. At least I'll be able to buy games cheap from this gen.

I've got an embarrassing backlog of games. I have several games that still have the shrink wrap on them that I bought long ago and haven't even touched - God of War Saga, Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, Batman AC, Fallout 3 GOTY, Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, Darksiders 2, Fire Emblem 3DS.
And then I have games I've played just some and haven't finished but I really want to: Uncharted 1, Batman AA, Resistance 3, Ico Collection HD, Metal Gear Solid 4, Bioshock 1, Red Dead Redemption.
And before you ask, yes I have a lot of games I did complete to the end....but also I have 6 kids and a full time job.

jagstatboy  +   541d ago
HAHA...maybe if I could get her to play video games I wouldn't be in this mess.
GamerElite  +   541d ago
Pish posh. That's nothing, I have over 18 kids, 3 cats, 2 dogs, and a parrot. And I still had time to finish my 70 of backlog of games.

I still have games in the cellophane on my shelf...and it's not because I'm a "collector". smh at myself, gotta get on that shit.
Lucreto  +   542d ago
I have about 6 or 7 games in the backlog.

I finished Ni No Kuni Friday but I didn't want to start Far Cry 3 because Tomb Raider is out on Tuesday. Then God of War and Bioshock Infinite.

The summer quiet period can't come fast enough.
Cam977  +   541d ago
"The Summer quiet period?"
The Last Of Us is coming then.
OmniSlashPT  +   542d ago
Bioshock, Fallout 3, MGS4 (and the rest of the series) and Heavy Rain/Ico and Shadow of the Colossus/Jak and Daxter Collection (never finished them :/). Most recently, Far Cry 3 and ACIII. It was kinda tough in the past few months with uni and all that but I'm getting more free time now to play. But sometimes I just dont feel like playing a certain game and go play FIFA or any shooter online just to get entertained.

I really don't Care i have:

191 Wii Games
5 Xbox 360 Games
6 PS3 Games
Pillsbury1  +   542d ago
So many ps plus games i have yet to touch and The last of us ( not out yet) and metal gear solid: peace walker ( need to finish before ground zeroes comes out).
DarKnightDave  +   542d ago
My backlog keeps growing, I'm buying up PS3 & PSP games as they keep going down in price. So far I'm not to interested in buying into the next gen.....at least for now, I'll come to more of a decision when E3 and a price are announced for PS4. So that will give me time to catch up on some of my games.
StrawberryDiesel420  +   542d ago
Demon's Souls and Dark Souls created a backlog in my collection. I have sunk over 600hrs into those games alone. I have about 7 other games to finish.
NoobJobz  +   542d ago
I still need to finish Blops 2 Campaign, halo 4 campaign, assassins creed 3 campaign, and far cry 3 campaign. I just finished up borderlands 2. I wish they hadn't all came out around the same time. I would get a new one and forget the old one. Then I ended up not playing any of them.
Evil_Ryu  +   542d ago
My rule of thumb is i don't buy games under 85% metacritic...that way I'm not wasting my limited time on shitty games.
Silly gameAr  +   542d ago
Not embarrassing, but ridiculous. I have games that I haven't even broke the wrapper on that are just sitting there asking me "why the hell did you buy me if you weren't going to play me"

So many games, so little time.
tigertron  +   541d ago
After subscribing to PS Plus I have a HUGE backlog.
Knushwood Butt  +   541d ago
I've got a fairly big gaming backlog, but it's not particularly embarrassing.
Psychotica  +   541d ago
Backlogs are good when there is the drought of good games which is usually just before the holiday season.
SDF Repellent  +   541d ago
I usually pick up games on the cheap so, Cheapassgamer is my source, and build my backlog that way. How can you resist $10 for a new copy of Dragon Dogma or $12 bucks for Uncharted 3? I still have backlogs from my PS2 era that I still haven't played. Will get to it eventually. As a matter a fact, I am on scenario 3 of the Japanese version of Shining Force 3...so you might say I have backlog from the Sega Saturn days. LOL

MasterD919  +   541d ago
I'm a backlog hoarder...I buy games knowing I won't have time to play them, and continue to purchase more than I can handle.

Used games for under 10 bucks are always a steal.
