Revelations HD Loading Times are Scary

From GamesReviews:

"Players who want to finish Resident Evil: Revelations HD might be disappointed to learn that there will be more than a few pauses in their adventure; the game in its current state boasts loading times of well over half a minute. Although the 3DS version wasn't a great deal better, people willing to buy both the original and HD port of the game will have been hoping that a little optimization may have cut back on load times." (PC, PS3, Resident Evil Revelations, Wii U, Xbox 360)

PopRocks359  +   997d ago
You mean to tell me that they potentially optimized this game so quickly and poorly that the loading times are now LONGER than that of the 3DS version? Are you freaking serious?

There's a big ol' "WTF" I'd like to give to Capcom if this turns out to be true.
MasterCornholio  +   997d ago
Didnt you see the comparison video? The load times for the console versions are the same as the ones for the 3DS.
BattleReach  +   997d ago
No, they just skipped the loading screens. Why would they put loading times in a comparison video?
zeee  +   996d ago
Well, we all hate that stupid "LOADING" screen don't we? You'd think that they'd try to optimize it further and make it work better than expected but nooooooo, Capcom along with Square Enix are one of the worst developers this gen. I am not going to call it a "FACT". "To each, his own" but I think it comes as close to being a fact as it can get.

It's like, at least this gen, Capcom and Square Enix are deliberately trying to do the opposite of what their fans ask for. After that gigantic ass of a failure that was RE6, you'd think that suits at Capcom would have learned their lesson but... Nooooo :)

cartridges load faster than a disk #fact
kB0  +   997d ago
Thats not always true, don't think just because of the 90s....

It depends on the read speed of the lens, on how optimized the game is and for the case of cartridges the quality of the actual Chip.

Don't forget that consoles have higher textures and improve graphics to load, compared to the 3ds which is about 240p comparing to 720p.

Also I highly doubt companies will invest too much on gaming cartridges...they are just there to hold information...transfer speed is nowhere near the focus...compared to lets say space.

So what we are seeing here is a factor of really poor optimization (I mean on pc RE5 and RE6 bencmark load almost instant, even on ps3 it loaded extremely fast with more going on), and just lousy placing of assets within the game. Remember this game was made for the 3Ds hardware first:)

We'll most likely see a day 1 patch to fix this issue:).

I already have it for 3Ds, so I will not be purchasing it...I might have if it came on the vita or if it had Coop.

This is just a cash in for 40$, go to your local game store if you have a 3Ds and you can can find it for anywhere 10$-15$ used and $20 new. Canadaian prices at least.

Good luck!

Load times were very long on the 3Ds as well, but not this long!

@kB0 a game installed on a ssd drive (cartridge) is always faster than a game running off disc... And that's without the game being optimized to take advantage of a ssd. If the game industry doesn't go fully digital in the next couple gens I can see the cartridge making a comeback on consoles as ssd drops in price. It's just technically beneficial to gaming in every way compared to current disc formats. I guess some of you look at cartridge like oh that's old school there's no way it's better than disc, that's not it at all... Cartridges stopped because disc's were cheaper to produce not because they were better. Games run quicker when fully installed to a hard drive compared to disk right? Well what do you think a hard drive is? It's a mixture of cartridge technology and disc technology... Where an ssd is all cartridge and outperforms that...

Instead of making the game scary, they made the loading times "scary"
DeadlyFire  +   996d ago
You guys really going to crap if the game takes an extra 5 seconds to load?

This is a straight port. Loading times do not improve on a port. Its the fact of life. If you wanna play then play. Don't expect it all to be perfect when its coming from a mobile gaming platform.
RustedMan  +   996d ago
Ah...the good ol' complacent consumer... You are exactly the kind of buyer that Capcom loves.
MoveTheGlow  +   996d ago
This is Capcom we're talking about, right? Go make yourself a sandwich! :P

Oh DMC4, your legacy will live forever.
Irishguy95  +   996d ago
"Straight port"

Is teh problem.
ChronoJoe  +   996d ago
3DS version runs off solid state memory, and standard definition textures.

In terms of loading, it should be a little faster than its console counterparts, really.
matgrowcott  +   996d ago
20-25 seconds on 3DS, currently 30-35 seconds on consoles.

It'd still be nice for them to get that down though, of course.
Oh_Yeah  +   996d ago
Cartridges are faster than disc man... Where were you in the 90s? Them instant boot times and that quick loading mmm. To bad it's not economical to make 50gb ssd cartridges to put games on.

I noticed that there were long loading times in a bit of gameplay footage that leaked a few days ago. I was hoping this was fixed for the Wii U, but clearly bumping up to HD graphics was enough to keep it bogged down.

Still, these loading times are in specific areas, and you always know when one's coming up. It wasn't THAT big of an inconvenience on the 3DS.
BattleReach  +   997d ago
Too high pricetag, less extra content, long loading times..

At least I hope they spell the games' title good on the boxart.
jc48573  +   997d ago
those extra content are converted into dlcs. it has been confirmed long ago.
Soldierone  +   997d ago
All the more reason to not buy it then.
DarkBlood  +   997d ago
i think that was a joke soldierone lol, as an owner of the 3DS version who plans to get the ps3 version or the wiiu version i dont know for sure

i can safely say the singleplayer is full, this extra content is not all that much which is just related to the raid mode side of things
kB0  +   997d ago

Single player or not, you can't possibly sell an inferior version on superior consoles. I mean even Peace Walker HD came with more...and the collection came with 3 games on one disk for 40$ then quickly discounted to 30$....this is absolutely high way robbery!

Also...it might be cheaper if you bought it for 3Ds including purchasing a 3Ds console.

I mean you can purchase a used console anywhere from 50-100$, a new 100-160 (depending on sale) + the 3Ds verison for 20$.

So average scenerio lets say you cheapen out, get a used 3Ds for 80$ + 20-40$ for the game...you pay about 3 times more but walk out with superior version with coop, and a brand new console....and portability!

50 bucks is too much for upscaled handheld ports anyway

This is a big reason Japanese game development is in the toilet.

Unoptimised games with 30+ seconds worth of load times where you just stand around doing nothing is not fun. If you're going to have long load times at least fill them with something interesting to do while it loads.

Games nowadays give you cutscenes, interesting dialogue, in-game masked loads (via on-rails sequences or some such gameplay feature). Multiple ways of hiding loading times while still keeping you focused and interested in the game you're playing. Watching a wheel go round for 30+ seconds isn't interesting in any way shape or form.

It's about time Japanese devs caught up with the rest of the world in a lot of facets of game development, this sort of thing is one of the more outstanding elements.

In all fairness, I don't think this is an East Vs West thing. It's more that this is a game they've made for the 3DS and it's been made in such a way that fixing the issue will take too much on consoles.

There's obviously some trick been used on 3DS that isn't necessary on, for instance, PS3. Taking out that trick might mean recoding though.

This isn't a defense. I think 30 seconds or even 15 is pretty heavy load time, and especially on a port. Just an attempt at finding a decent reason.
Kaiou  +   997d ago
Like always , just get it on PC and run it from a fast HDD/SSD if possible .
kalor62  +   997d ago
SSD is what they need lol
Plagasx  +   997d ago
That's why I'm getting the PC version on SSD :D
Skate-AK  +   997d ago
Just add a optional install option for the consoles. That should help some.

"The game in its current state boasts loading times of well over half a minute."

And there's still 2 months until the game releases, during which the game could be polished. I wouldn't get too worried right now.
younghavok  +   997d ago
Im sure they arent done yet so give it time, and even still im sure those who purchase digitally can get some trimmed down load times
TrueStoryGuy  +   997d ago
Really? People are complaining about 30 second load times for a video game? That's short! Hell, Resident Evil: Outbreak had load times of about 2 minutes!
Qrphe  +   996d ago
Not when it's running from a HDD. But even then, no excuses.
PopRocks359  +   996d ago
And Resident Evil 4 on the GCN/Wii had load times that lasted all of a few seconds. What's your point?
blastcorp64  +   997d ago
What annoyed me about the game is it would stutter while walking in a preloaded area right before an enemy is about to emerge. The little stutter was noticeable enough to ruin the surprise and it would tip you off every time.
matgrowcott  +   996d ago
The stutter is still supposedly pretty noticeable on the current HD build as well.
Myx23  +   996d ago
thanks for the warning. was already hesitant about repurchasing the game (already bought and not played it on the 3ds) but now - seeing they are being true to their name: crapcom - i will gladly pass this one on to the less demanding section of the gamers worldwide. there will be way too many that blindly will support crapcom's ways by shoving money down their greedy throats.
aiBreeze  +   996d ago
I hope the loading times isn't the only scary part of the game.
matgrowcott  +   995d ago
Revelations was universally praised when it was released.

I'm sure it's a little spookier than RE6, anyway.
Orionsangel  +   996d ago
Can't believe we still have loading times in 2013. This was cute on PSone, but this is ridiculous now.
o-Sunny-o  +   996d ago
Capcom messed up their last good Resident Evil game...

This is the sort of thing people should expect from an industry hell bent on blocking the second hand market, it'll only get worse if they succeed.

When I see the story picture for this art. I always think it is Joanna Dark.

And I think a Perfect Dark for WiiU?

But then I read... :(
