Uncharted alike FPS coming to Xbox 360 this summer

Ever wondered what Uncharted would be like if it became an FPS created by the team behind brutal FPS series Painkiller? Well, imagine no more as Nordic Games has announced Deadfall Adventures.

Previously revealed as Adventurer, Deadfall promises to blend first-person shooting with puzzle solving and exploration in a globe-trotting adventure.

Set in 1938, players take control of James Lee Quatermain – a man with many talents – and must escort Jennifer Goodwin, a US agent and former colleague of his, to an Egyptian temple complex in order to retrieve an ancient artefact - The Heart of Atlantis.

Things don't quite go according to plan and Quatermain finds himself part of a hunt across the globe - from the stormy deserts of Egypt to the icy depths of the Arctic and the steaming jungles of Guatemala. (Deadfall Adventures, PC, Xbox 360)

It's not like Uncharted. It's a FPS and Uncharted is a third person shooter.
Rainstorm81  +   1081d ago
The title says (supposed to say) Uncharted "like" FPS
darthv72  +   1081d ago
more like
FPAA (first person action/adventure).

Or...

FPE (first person exploration)

"Both of them are like indiana jones. "

Ah, got there before me!
ChronoJoe  +   1081d ago
I guess so, but the music and even the trailer resemble Uncharted 3 in particular quite strongly.

The gameplay looks promising though, looks like it might be a fun title. I'm sure mechanically it's very different, and they're just trying to clone some aspects of Uncharted's style / presentation in order to net a wider audience.
AngelicIceDiamond  +   1081d ago
Lol at the draw distance in this game. Sorry but after watching Killzone's massive draw distance. This pales nothing in comparison.

Overall I hope the games good.
Vames  +   1081d ago | Well said
The Killzone you speak of is a next gen title, this isn't. Why many N4G users fail to use their heads is beyond me.
Vames  +   1081d ago
You have no sense of understanding.
AngelicIceDiamond  +   1080d ago
Obviously. I couldn't help but notice the leap in graphics we're gonna be heading into.

So yes, imo graphics will look Night and day from current gen to next gen. Killzone Shadow Fall proved that.
ufo8mycat  +   1080d ago
AngelicIce - the leap in graphics will mean NOTHING if the gameplay is still its usual average self. Yes I am talking about KZ2, KZ3 - generic, linear average FPS gameplay.

You can put all the fancy graphics pasted over it as you like, if the gameplay for KZ4 is going to be the same average gameplay from KZ2,3 - I won't be buying it.
RedDeadLB  +   1081d ago
This looks good, very interesting. Can't wait to try it out.
Rainstorm81  +   1081d ago
Okay the article described this game as an Uncharted FPS......I see why the music sounds like a remix to the Uncharted theme

......but I think I'll pass on this one
trenso1  +   1081d ago
Another fps...the concept seems cool but solving puzzle in first person doesn't seem to fun and why do you need to make it an fps
GiggMan  +   1081d ago
Because it's on the Xbox.

*J/K everybody don't get upset :-)*
Omni-Tool  +   1081d ago
Regardless if you were kidding, it is sadly true.
EZMickey  +   1081d ago
Portal, Prey and Half Life say "Hi".
trenso1  +   1081d ago
Portal and half life are good games I'll admit that, but they aren't games I particularly liked, I didn't enjoy half life as much as Id like to admit but thats my opinion and portal I did like but doesn't pop into my head as often as games I enjoyed much more
EZMickey  +   1076d ago
@trenso1

You're more than entitled to your own opinion and preferences. Point is that puzzle solving in FPS games may not seem fun to you, but Half Life and Portal stand as two great examples of FPS puzzle games. In Half Life's case it's more action and adventure with the puzzle solving being another entertaining way to break up the flow.

Not disregarding your own preference, but those two titles are considered some of the best games out there by critics and consumers alike with Half Life 2 earning the Highest Rated PC game of All Time on Metacritic (last I checked).

If you can identify that FPS puzzle solving is not something you enjoy then at least you know your own tastes well enough to anticipate that this game is probably not for you.

looks pretty sweet, hopefully it turns out great.
cleverusername  +   1081d ago
Why would I wonder something as random as that?
despair  +   1081d ago
Set in a jungle with ancient/old ruins is not exactly what makes uncharted great, from the small gameplay(I had no audio so can't comment on anything but the visuals) it looks more like painkiller than uncharted FPS
PersonMan  +   1081d ago
First person view looks so cheesy!

The only first person shooter that I ever thought didn't look cheesy, is Killzone 2 and 3. The movements, the animations... everything looked really natural. Most FPS games look really weird to me.

I prefer 3rd person games most of the time though.
Loki86  +   1081d ago
Highly disagree with this, Killzone had some of the most jaggy forced animations especially when there was alot of background activity at the same time.
PersonMan  +   1081d ago
I mean, when you're running, you feel like you're running, not gliding. When you're jumping, you actually feel like you crouch down to jump rather than just bounce off the ground effortlessly. Reloading looks better than most games. I also like how when you re-fill your ammo from an ammo station, you actually reach out and grab it. A lot of FPS games do not show your character grabbing anything... you just magically pick it up with your mind or something. Even Crysis does this. Need more ammo... go to an ammo box and boom you've got ammo without even moving a muscle.

Tell me which games do this better? I'd like to know.
Ducky  +   1081d ago
^ In Crysis, you actually pick up weapons from the ground.
They levitate into your hand in Killzone.

Neither of the two games show you your legs though. So they're all weird.

@FatOldMan

You see your legs in Crysis.
Loki86  +   1081d ago
I'm sorry , but why did I lose a bubble for voicing an opinion. i respect if you didn't agree with it, but there is nothing personal or defamatory in this comment.
aliengmr  +   1081d ago
@disagree

Crysis on PC you see your legs, FACT.
PersonMan  +   1081d ago
Umm... in both Crysis and Killzone, you see your legs.
spicelicka  +   1081d ago
Because all those animations take away from the gameplay. Killzone had heavy and realistic first person animations because it was a slow shooter. Not saying it's a bad thing, but the aiming was difficult and not smooth, and you couldn't maneuver around the environment much, no jumping onto platforms or pulling headshots with your reflex.

It was meant to be that way though, the whole game was designed to accept those heavy movements and animations, which made the game unique but not necessarily fun all the time. Other FPS games are more focused on shooting, swift aiming, platforming, and strafing so the player feels in control.

You're so worried about the "cheesy look" that you don't realize how much the gameplay would be sacrificed to get that realistic look.

Think about it, I have 10 enemies around me shooting from all directions. I don't want to stop and pick up ammo from the box every time i need it, i don't want to duck down and grab the gun or spend 15 seconds reloading when i'm being shot. All these mini animations ruin the flow and you don't feel in control, and FPS games are all about control.

i don't want to flame you, but i'm assuming you don't play FPS game alot. All i'm trying to say is that gameplay is 10times more important than how the game "looks" like it plays.
BoNeSaW23  +   1081d ago
If you played with high precision controls on and the sensitivity up, all that heavy feel was gone :/ Try that for more responsive controls if you haven't already.

I played it how it was designed to be played and enjoyed the hell out of it. I REALLY loved the unique feel it has and isn't like every other shooter.

Actually this is based on a relative of Allan Quartermain from from a famous series of books from the 1800s and early 1900s. It was a little before Uncharted. Actually Tomb Raider and Indiana Jones too.
Swiggins  +   1081d ago
Probably the most famous example wold be King Solomons Mines, a famous adventure story about a diamond mine in the heart of Africa.

I gotta admit, the name alone is more than enough to draw me in.
Axonometri  +   1081d ago
Ditto... Story informative pulled me right in. I've played FPS genre intensely for many years and in the last 4 to 5 yrs, it's truly been a dry mouth full of sand.

This waters my mouth.
aliengmr  +   1081d ago
Who disagrees with facts then doesn't have the balls to back it up? If the facts are wrong correct them.

Soon as I heard "Quartermain", I knew this was based on something a little before the time of video games.
dcbronco  +   1081d ago
It just speaks to the sad state of some of the commentators on websites. Hopefully it's just a young kid. Really sad if it's an adult fanboy. N4G needs a separate section for people who base their comments on facts. It would raise their credibility. Fanboys drown out any worthwhile conversations too often.

So because they reached back to one of Indy's inspirations, it can't still be inspired by Uncharted?

Edit: That doesn't make any sense. You can argue that Uncharted was inspired by the likes of Indiana Jones and Allan Quartermain, and that's fine. No one would disagree with you.

But while this game may be based on one of the inspirations of Uncharted, that doesn't stop it from also being inspired by Uncharted. Tomb Raider has obviously done this.

What makes this game different?
#11.3 (Edited 1081d ago ) | Agree(3) | Disagree(8) | Report | Reply
dcbronco  +   1081d ago
Not if Uncharted was inspired by it.
dcbronco  +   1081d ago
Games like Uncharted are just a re-imaginings of material like those books. If he had had the ability to make a game instead of writing a book maybe he would have made Uncharted. But based on the little we have seen of the new game it's hard to say it was inspired by Uncharted. It could just as easily been Tomb Raider. But the overall idea is definitely based on Quartermain. Especially since it's based on the adventures of his Great-great Grandson following in his footsteps.

It looks terrible. Also, at the 30 second mark the game starts reminding me of The Armour of God intro.
brettyd  +   1081d ago
I mean it's a blatant rip off of Uncharted, even the music is very similar. That being said it looks pretty good.
aliengmr  +   1081d ago
Minus the perspective. Wouldn't a "blatent ripoff" be in third person?
CaptainYesterday  +   1081d ago
It look's okay I would like to know more about it though more about the story see some more gameplay :)
N311V  +   1081d ago
I agree, has a similar vibe as Uncharted but the gameplay and story/characters will have to be very good if its to be comparable.

uncharted alike FPS?!?! dis iz gooDz noose wowzers
lema008  +   1081d ago
Here's hoping the gameplay is nothing like Unchartered. I know I can't be the only one who thought that game was overrated. Sure it had it's moments were it look pretty, but it also had it moments when it look like it came straight out of super nes and less not forget your on a rail system, it does your jumps for you, hard to die(you get shot at a lot and nothing happens, you shoot once and there dead) and it has small close up environments. It had it's moments with the story and characters but it was just too arcade for me.

I'm for one is looking forward to it being more real like in it's play.
kesvalk  +   1080d ago
how it's like uncharted if it's a FPS?

damn this "gaming journalism"...
