Why Games Matter - Games Are Just Gadgets

Ed Smith of IBTimes UK writes: "The PlayStation event - it was really rubbish. Sony was mega kind in putting me up at the swish Bryant Park Hotel for my first ever press trip, but the launch itself was a total damp patch. The poxy bells and whistles (social connectivity, the Share button; some weird thing to do with cameras) that Sony has strapped to the PlayStation do nothing for me except solidify my suspicion that, rather than genuinely innovate, the next-gen of game consoles will repackage what's popular on phones and the internet and wrap some games around it.

"And since when was this computer gaming's future? A few years ago it felt like smarter, braver, more literate AAA games were coming next; now it seems the best we can hope for is the ability to instantly tell our friends whenever we finish a level on f*****g Killzone." (Industry, Next-Gen, PS4, Sony, Tech)

So you ran into an opinion that you didn't agree with, didn't bother to read on to see what influenced that opinion, and then felt the need to share the fact that you didn't read it.

Kudos.

I'm not going to waste my life reading something I couldn't care less about and giving a site revenue which i've never even heard of. Anyone can write about videogames these days it seems

Yeah what right does a games journalist have to say he was unimpressed with Sony's conference?

Thank god you didn't waste your life reading an article you couldn't care less about, that time is much better spent doing something productive, like commenting on how you didn't read the article.

Urgh. I read the whole thing and only wish I hadn't bothered, it was every bit as negative and whiny as I expected. The entire first paragraph is just the writer shitting on everyone in the industry, consumer and creator alike.
My favorite line?
"Hypocrisy will follow. You have been warned."
Announcing that you are being a hypocrit does not make your hypocrisy any more acceptable, or any less obnoxious.
