PlayStation 4 is An All-Out Attack on the Competition, Will it Work?

GenGAME writes: The PlayStation 4 is on its way, and this time around Sony is focusing on new play options. With the help of things like the new DualShock 4 controller, a dual camera, and new streaming technology provided by Gaikai, Sony is aiming to give gamers lots of new ways to play.

Most of these new features share the common denominator of giving players the ability to experience games before buying them, but that’s not Sony’s only endgame here. Looking at the big picture, all of these new features make one thing very certain: Sony is launching an all-out attack on the competition. (Gaikai, PS4, Sony)

Attack is not the right word. They are surely making a strong statement, but not attacking any body. The DS4, new camera, share and Gaikai have nothing to do with "experience games before buying them", so how is that "the common denominator"?

Sony has made a strong statement with the PS4, it is meant to excite fans and put pressure on the competition. I think they succeeded in doing both. The Wii-u will no doubt miss out on some ports and we have no idea how M$ will respond. Sony did gamers a big favor no matter which system they may prefer.

No, "attack" is the right word.

They want to ensure that as few people buy Nintendo and Microsoft as possible, and that they buy Sony instead for its relative advantages (you can tell by the product features and the way they were described - "the first gaming social network WITH MEANING" is an obvious dig at Miiverse, for example).

That's a clear offensive strategy.

i thought you would have figured it out by now that nintendo and sony are nothing alike

someone who wants a nintendo system wants it for nintendos 1st party games
that has always been the case

i can see xbox and PS compete
they share similarities

Not an attack but a statement. A statement that says they want to be the platform to go to for all your gaming needs.

Nobody here or anywhere else knows what impact the PS4 will have. I like what I have seen so far but that doesn't mean much 2, 3 years from now and how much of an attack it will have on the competition.

@live2play/MikeMyers

Sony stole a large portion of the Nintendo population during the PSone and PS2 eras, and you can bet they're trying to do it again. An "attack" in marketing terms has to do with attempting to weaken the competition, and Sony's definitely trying to do that with PS4.

Gaikai has everything to do with experiencing games before buying them.

With Gaikai looking to put all games on other devices, PS4 will basically offer no exclusives. Why bother buying a PS4 when people can play it on a device they already own.

@DOMination
That's...not at all what Gaikai is doing.

its always been top dog, ps4 will be no different.

Sony failed to deliver.
There is a reason why the stock prices went down after ps4 reveal.
No one was impressed with ps4 show, except for the brainwashed Sony fanboys.

I guess all the devs who love it don't matter? Oh yeah, this is N4G so the stock price is of paramount importance. smh

Developers and publishers have other interests, they are trying to sell software.
They don't care about hardware, and why should they, it's not their problem.
There are more than enough platforms to support, so they will sell their games and engines.
Vita is developer friendly to, but how does this reflects in hardware sales?

All this sounds promising, but the question now is...will they execute on these things. Will Sony execute.

I believe the ram and kaz and his vision to bring in gaikai will certainly help make things happen.

Now, lets see what ms has up its sleeve.
