Borderlands 2 profits help fund all other Gearbox Software titles according to Randy Pitchford

Randy Pitchford has stated that the success that the “Borderlands” franchise has seen has helped fund all other Gearbox Software developed games. The comment is in light of recent allegations that the company took money earmarked for “Aliens: Colonial Marines” and used it to help create “Borderlands 2” instead. Pitchford, President of Gearbox Software, says this couldn’t be further from the truth. “Think opposite,” he said as he stated that “Borderlands 2” profits have been used by the developer as investment to help pay for all other Gearbox Software games, including “Aliens: Colonial Marines.”

Should of used more then 1% of that BL2's money on Aliens.

Instead we got a falsely advertised game.

Reborn1185d ago

Well, if Sega 'properly' get involved, we'll know soon enough. Either way, it doesn't justify the slap up job which was Aliens.

Here's to hoping for Borderlands 3

ironfist921185d ago

...did I say something wrong? :/

Reverent1185d ago

I don't think so. I think people are still just pissy over the Aliens dilemma.

TheSaint1184d ago

People just hit dislike because they think it gives them candy.

That's the only explanation for people disliking facts and such.

He's fulla sh!t. If Borderlands profits help fund Aliens then they're not making enough money from Borderlands. FAIL of the year so far.

Well, he also didn't clarify what percentage of profits go toward their other projects. And if that's true, I could see Pitchford hoarding as much money as possible (right after paying himself a nice salary) for the development of the next Borderlands iteration, whilst shirking Gearbox's development responsibilities with their other projects. It just makes Gearbox look extremely unreliable, inconsistent, and borderline unprofessional. And if this latest Aliens debacle doesn't hit their bottomline as a development contractor in the future, then call me Santa Claus.

I wouldn't put it past him now. I really respected him and Gearbox before this Aliens thing came out. Now, with everything that has come out they just look like chumps. I really love Borderlands and I'd love to see more from that series. But Gearbox has lost hear'y all of my previous respect.

I thought Sega published it. He's making more BS up.

j4re1184d ago

He's in damage control mode and just hoping this whole thing blows over sooner than later. Hopefully there's something that Sega can do legally to hold him responsible. There's blatant fraud involved here. The shame is that people are still buying the game. As long as Sega still sees a positive return on Colonial Marines the less likely they'll be to take legal action.

Well maybe it funds something, but we all know full well the money for Borderlands 2 came from ACM. You really shot yourself in the foot Gearbox, you're going to be scrutinized about every little thing from now on. it's like a miniature EA! How cute.

maelstromb1185d ago

"it's like a miniature EA! How cute."

Oh snap! He went there! ;)

I have balls, I'm not afraid to say what needs to be said. Gearbox is a joke now, they think they're going to ride off into the sunset with Borderlands but look at all the shitty DLC it's been getting. "We don't want to raise the level cap, because it would break the game" REALLY?!?!?!?! DIDN'T HAPPEN IN THE FIRST GAME, AND YOU HAD A SHITTY BUDGET THEN. They're the next big gaming company to go bankrupt that's for sure. Hopefully in a few years their big brother EA will follow.
