Eskimo Press: One of the best features of new generations of gaming platforms is how they can help breathe new life into the games we love and used to play the heck out of. XBLA and PSN offer plenty of HD remakes and ports, a lot of classics are finding new life on iOS and Android devices, Nintendo’s virtual console has a substantial catalogue, and the PC & Mac offer various ways to relive long-time favorites. When it comes to remakes, it can be a touchy subject. Many of us like our games the way they were, and things can go sour real quick if a remake is not handled with care. Thankfully, there are a lot of great remakes out there, and here are our picks for the ten best video game remakes, in no particular order.
Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."
Alone in the Dark developer Pieces Interactive has been hit with layoffs a month after its release, as per the latest information.
That genuinely, genuinely sucks. The reboot has clear flaws, but it really felt like a solid first step for this team to receive *greater* investment.
Shenmue: Reclaiming the Path is a fan game using Dreamcast-era visuals, and tells a new story within the Shenmue saga taking place in both Hong Kong and Guilin. Its expected to release on September 16th.
Something about recreating old school graphics in an era of HD high poly photo realism just hits a spot. I'm not nostalgic cause I mostly played GameCube and GB/A, but it's a visual style that gets over looked even by indies.
Definitely a fan project. Terrible hand animations. Some characters have very bad body proportions. Some look like little kids in adult bodies. Some have short arms, small head, big hips and so on.
Wish Sega would do something with Shenmue other than condemning it to the forgotten dungeon of great IPs.
Oh wait thats right, they are too busy farming out great licenses to (usually) great devs so they can butcher a franchise in the name of making monies...*cough* Aliens.

And the Resident Evil Re-make is the best remake of all time. Oh, mannnn! Them graphics at the time were so good.

Capcom should really look to the RE remake for inspiration on how they can get the Resident Evil series back on track.. although it might be too late after RE 5 & 6 :/
Wow a lot of Twin Snakes fans in here. I usually get blasted for loving that game but what's not to love? Classic MGS remade with comparable graphics to 2/3 with the same gameplay.
Oot, Halo, RE were all amazing and DQ7 looks amazing also. Lots of great remakes on the ds/3ds.
