Microsoft continues "Xbox Gold" domain buying spree following news of interest in name

Since it was first reported Saturday that Microsoft had been obtaining “Xbox Gold” domains, the company has gone on the offensive registering a slew of “Xbox Gold” domains on Monday, including several international names. The newest domain registrations include XboxGold.biz, XboxGold.com.co, XboxGold.us, XboxGold.at, XboxGold.ch, XboxGold.jp, XboxGold.mx, XboxGold.ru, XboxGold.tw and XboxGold.fr. These latest names are just a sampling of what Microsoft has been buying up, at a time when rumors of the next-generation Xbox being officially announced to the public within the next several weeks. The newest registrations all took place on February 25, two days after news broke that the company had been taking an interest in “Xbox Gold” domains. (Industry, Microsoft, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

Xbox Gold... as a subscription service, okay. Fine. Keep the Gold moniker.

But as a system name... my God, Xbox Gold is awful.

Yuck. Images of tacky looking gold spray painted plastic come to mind.

Nor should it. What should go is the obligatory online charge. I think consumers have had quite enough of paying to access P2P online gameplay on games they already own. Microsoft needs to join the ranks of what is considered fair in a service.

If Microsoft is keeping a Pay-for-online model for Gold, I hope they really give better bang for your dollar. Right now I don't feel I am getting enough for what I pay.

I am also paying for PS+ and i feel like I'm definitely getting my monies worth with that service. Especially now that Plus is on my Vita as well under the one subscription.

Hopefully Plus has made Microsoft rethink their strategy for Gold.

65+ FREE games per year on PS+ now because of the launch of PS+ on PSVITA.
The number will increase when PS+ launches on PS4 too.
