So basically the author is suggesting a model similar to basically what Slightly Mad Studios is doing with Project Cars.

Gamers pop down some dollars, and get involved with the development and testing and giving feedback and opinions, while ensuring a discount on the final game, as well as ensuring the game is what is expected, and not a big lie such as ACM
