Sony completely revises list of PS4 EU studios, down from 53 to 28 [update]

Sony made wholesale corrections to the list of European/PAL companies confirmed as PS4 developers and publishers, reducing the list of named studios from 53 to 28. Curiouser, not one of the developers and publishers named on the previous list makes an appearance on the new roll call. A spokesperson for Sony Computer Entertainment Europe confirmed to us the first list, sent out last week, was erroneous, and this new one is correct. There are no revisions for any other regions. (PS4, Sony)

Update Please note that this applies to the European list of developers only, not worldwide.

They don't want you to know they developing for the PS4
bicfitness  +   736d ago
Agreed. Considering that EA, Blizzard/ Activision, Ubisoft, Capcom, SE and pretty much EVERYONE we KNOW is doing projects for the PS4 aren't on "the list", I don't understand the purpose of this article. Well, I do, as its clickbait. "OMGZ Sony has noez 3rd party supports!"

Wait, yeah, it does, and we already saw a bunch of it on stage.

Edit: Its a FACT that 4 out of 5 publishers I mentioned were AT the Sony Presser SHOWING or DISCUSSING PROJECTS FOR THE PS4, and yet they are not on the 'revised' list being presented. But continue to disagree with reality, it will serve you well.

It's nice knowing than Bohemia Interactive
are in.They're developing arma for those that don't know.
CrimsonFox13  +   736d ago
I don't think we'll see ArmA for the PS4. The game's too 'simmy' and uses too many keys to really work well with the controller (though there is a touch screen, but I don't know too much about that). I think it might be DayZ after the game gets out of the beta release thing they're doing or maybe Carrier Command. Or a new IP.

I've never understood this argument, that a certain PC game can't be brought to a console because of the controller, most consoles can use a keyboard and mouse, it's up to the developer to make their games compatible with the keyboard e.g, PS3 version of UT3.

So RTS, Tactical shooters, MMO's can transition to consoles, In theory all a developer has to do is include a notification on the box and in the game boot up screen similar to Move/Kinect enabled games saying "requires a keyboard and mouse" it's that simple. I'm pretty sure most people who game, own a keyboard and mouse, It's not a rarity like pre 2000 era.

Thanks to the new Sony and Blizzard partnership I would LOVE to see Starcraft 2 on the PS4, it can be done, I'm sure most people who will pick the game up will know such a genre would require a keyboard and mouse, something that they most likely have at home.

its a mistake ok

first list lacked developers of the Witcher 3 a nd they confirmed ps3 version
3-4-5  +   736d ago
Yea half already have a game being made, the other half are Allowed to make PS4 games, but haven't started yet.

I think it's so fans stop asking these 3rd Party dev's about games they haven't even started yet.

Its a smart move.
But capcom had their name removed and they already showed Deep Down ....AT THE EVENT. Sup with that?

Well seeing

1. (Xbox 360 staple for indi gaming) Braid's Dev releasing their next IP on PS4 straight from launch and showing that the indi community is fully supported on PS4

2. (Xbox developers and partners) Activision coming out and not only commiting support to Sony but revealing exclusive Buncgie's Destiny content only on PS4

3. SquareEnix, Capcom and Epic Games(Huge Xbox developer)showing their next gen engines and hyping the system.

4. The developers video talking about the PS4 and how Sony made this system first priority for developers to work on.

I am about 99% that Sony has done something amazing with this new system and they will have a ton of support.

Yeah I am pretty sure they didn't mail back the dev kits. They just rather not been seen right now.
nukeitall  +   736d ago
A bunch of studios are considering it, but don't want to be endorsing a system they aren't sure they are supporting.

Looks like Sony jumped the gun a little. Halving the list is quite significant!

@ eye wow someone who actually thinks the same as me lol. I dont see any excuse why those games cant be ported to consoles especially on an open network platform such as playstation. Only thing I can think of is that patching may be slower than normal but I dont quite know the reasoning why it would be. But ya controller excuse is BS just have mouse and keyboard required like there is move and other requirements for certain games. Then if they want to make tack on dualshock support they can w/o feeling too bad whether it works well or not. Every gamer should own a mouse and keyboard and if people dont they can have gaming mouse/keyboard bundles w/ the game on shelves.

Paradox Interactive, Bohemia Interactive, Creative Assembly very focused PC Devs
Anyone notice that Bohemia Interactive (ArmA Devs), Creative Assembly (Total War Devs) and Paradox Interactive (creator of different RTS games on PC) are listed?

Very focused PC Devs working in the PS4.

Could we see ArmA 3 on PS4? Or a Total War game?

"They don't want you to know they developing for the PS4" The PS4 has already been announced so no need for secrecy.

Nice try though.
chadboban  +   736d ago
Not exactly great news but I'm pretty certain PS4 will be fine. Sony's first party games are what I mostly buy my Sony consoles for in the first place, same goes for Nintendo consoles.
chadboban  +   736d ago
Just noticed Ubisoft is not on the list when we know they're making Watch Dogs. Makes me wonder what's the purpose of not having them there. It's not like it's a secret that they're making something.
DOMination-  +   736d ago
No its because as the name of the studio suggests, Ubisoft Montreal is not in Europe.

And to others; neither are capcom, Blizzard, SE etc!

i dont think that revised list is very useful considering that we know for a fact that ubisoft, blizzard, capcom and square enix are making games for the PS4, and they arent even listed.

Yeah, actually now, the more I look at it, the more strange it seems to me.

This is a list of European developers, and only Mojang, Rovio, Criterion Games, City Interactive and Frozenbyte were removed. Not a big deal.
bicfitness  +   736d ago
The article isn't clear on that. Then they go on to show the "original list", which is certainly not JUST EU developers.

CVG are confused, not the people in this thread.

>including Mojang, Rovio, Criterion Games, City Interactive and Frozenbyte

They weren't the only ones, they were simply the ones mentioned by name. Besides, 5 isn't half of 53.
Chrono  +   736d ago
@Brucis yes they are not the only ones, but the rest are less significant. The article is only talking about the EU developers.

Brucis  +   736d ago

I was simply correcting you that they weren't the only ones. If someone looked at your comment they might get the wrong idea, thinking that only 5 devs left when the article was simply naming a few.
MasterCornholio  +   736d ago
Oh noez Sony lost half of their 3rd party support. Whatever shall they do?

ROFL Do they actually believe that this actually happened? Also like other posters said there are a ton of studios developing titles for the PS4 yet they are not even on the list. This confirms how invalid that this article is.

Brucis  +   736d ago
That...doesn't seem good. On the other hand, they got some new devs on the list. Here's hoping there wasn't some sort of issue between Sony and the devs that got taken off.

The reading comprehension on this site is atrocious. The list is for European Devs only. They had North American and Asian ones mixed in there, and they were removed.. I'm sure they're still on their respective North American or Asian Dev list.

This is not good news to kick off a push for the PS4, tough to spin it, but I'm glad the Sony defense force is out at N4G per usual.
clintagious650  +   736d ago
LMFAO at "tough to spin it" hahaha wake up buddy the ps4 is for real & EVERY 3rd party studio will support it rather their name is on the list or not.
Jek_Porkins  +   736d ago
I bet you said the same thing about the Vita?
clintagious650  +   736d ago

The psvita has only been out for a year or so and in that short time dished out more new exclusive ip's for its core then the 360 has in the last 3 years. Sorry 360 only owners but he started it 1st.

Hahahaha Nice selfown, Sony. And this was not by accident. You don't put up 25 game studios on a list by accident.
izumo_lee  +   736d ago
Wow! CVG way to blow things out of proportions here.

Do they really think that Sony misimformed the list of developers working on the PS4?

The new list are changes made to the original list for European developers ONLY. Are CVG really serious to think that developers that were on stage like Squarenix, Activision, Blizzard aren't working on the system, than why were they on stage.

There are still 50+ developers from that original list that are commited to work on the PS4. We are headed to a new generation of consoles but it looks like gaming journalism is still the same.

hano  +   736d ago
Umm, the list got significantly smaller. How can be that wrong?
-Gespenst-  +   736d ago
Great start! Although I can't figure out why companies who are definitely making games for the Ps4 aren't on the list... It's not like they can do much to hide that fact at this point, having announced their titles at a high-profile conference that like 700000 people watched.
a_adji  +   736d ago
Dam you fan boys really are hurting. Calm down dear!!!

Although that is a drastic cut to the list.

They hype machine now has to be real.

Either way it will be a great system so lets wait and see the price point and the sexy machine I know sony will make it.

IE, Ninja Theory=Capcom, 2K Games=Take-Two, Mercury Steam=Konami, and so on.
ironmonkey  +   736d ago
Na sony just puts them on hold. It would cost way to much to get all studios to make a game each thats just insane. Ms has one game every ten to twenty years and their doing ok.

Typo in title. They mean PS3 when it says PS4
