I pay for XBL because I like all the features it has to offer me vs. what the competition offers me for free.
Being able to play online with my XBL gold membership is just a free bonus.
The only thing live offers is more chat options and the ability to play your games online that's it everything else you can do for free on any other devise or console.

I've never paid more than $35 for a year of Xbox Live, wish I could get these types of deal with my phone service or cable provider...lol
I think people are just mad that gamers actually enjoy a service like Xbox Live enough to keep paying for it, it actually increased by 15% this year, which is huge. Too bad I already bought two of these cards earlier in the year when they were only $29.99, but they only let you enter one at a time.....
Also, I can get television for free, but I choose to pay for premium services. It'd be like complaining about paying extra for HBO when you already pay for normal cable. Premium is premium and if you don't like it, don't buy it, there are alternatives.
Netflix you pay for but again to access it you have to pay M$ who are not your internet provider (cable seems to be yours) if you want to pay for things like netflix etc fine but why exactly do microsoft take your internet away and expect you to pay to get it back and why do you accept it?
There isn't a single Xbox owner that says to themselves "I'd love to know what Playstation owners think." Your opinion is irrelevant. Either jump on the deal or GTFO.
It's like the DLC or the online pass situation. Some gamers think it's a good deal, so by supporting it they brought us the day one DLC and the on disc DLC...

I just refuse. especially in this day and age where most games have a hefty online component, to be held to ransom over the content of the disc.
People complained about online passes for used games on PS3, yet the 360 has an online pass for every single game, new or used, and people lap it up and think features like cross game chat or Netflix warrant it or try to justify it with statements like "it's only x per month" or "I never pay full price for ir anyway" as it that makes it better.
It's disgusting to make people pay to:
1. Access content they already paid for.
2. Have access to their own internet
3. Charge for p2p connects.
If you can't see why this is wrong or why others are concerned and have an opinion, then Microsoft have wonderfully managed to blind you. The fact is, when they tried to charge PC owners for the same service, PC gamers just refused to pay it and Microsoft were forced to make it free, because there were alternatives, on 360? You play by their terms and, until people take a stand, they'll continue to charge.
